"The Closer" Ranks as Basic Cable's #1 Drama for the Week

TNT's blockbuster series The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles closed out their remarkable summer last Monday, with The Closer drawing 7.9 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery to rank as basic cable's #1 drama for the week. The Closer also averaged 2 million adults 18-49 and 2.6 million adults 25-54. Rizzoli & Isles came in a close second for the week among basic cable dramas, drawing 7.7 million viewers in Live + 3. The hit drama also garnered 2.2 million adults 18-49 and 2.8 million adults 25-54.

TNT's Monday dramas continue to score outstanding numbers in time-shifted viewing, with the Aug. 29 episode of Rizzoli & Isles climbing to a final delivery of more than 9.3 million viewers in Live + 7, its largest audience of the season. Among demos, the episode grew to 2.6 million adults 18-49 and 3.3 million adults 25-54. The Aug. 29 installment of The Closer finished up with 8.8 million viewers in Live + 7, including 2.3 million adults 18-49 and 3.1 million adults 25-54.

For the year-to-date, Rizzoli & Isles is on pace to repeat its first-season victory as basic cable's most-watched drama. The Closer continues to prove its strength in its seventh and final season, ranking a strong second behind Rizzoli & Isles. The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles are set to return with all-new episodes Monday, Nov. 28.

Adult Swim

Adult Swim ranked as basic cable's #1 network in total day delivery of adults 18-34. The network scored double-digit delivery growth across the board over the time period last year, with adults 18-34 (588,000) up 25%, adults 18-49 (764,000) up 17%, men 18-34 (351,000) up 23% and men 18-49 (448,000) up 13%.

Adult Swim's original series Squidbillies (Sunday, 11:45 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among men 18-34.

Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Childrens Hospital, Aqua Teen Hungerforce and American Dad - accounted for 26 of basic cable's Top 50 programs for the week among adults 18-34, and 28 of the Top 50 among men 18-34, both more than any other network.

truTV

truTV's breakout hit Hardcore Pawn delivered another outstanding performance last week, with more than 2.1 million viewers and triple-digit growth across the board for the Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot. In the race for key adult and male demos, Hardcore Pawn ranked a strong second place among all ad-supported cable programming in its timeslot with adults 18-49 (1.2 million) and men 18-49 (751,000). Hardcore Pawn also scored a big win over A&E's Billy the Exterminator and Discovery's Auction Kings, delivering 24% more adults 18-49 than those two reality shows combined.

truTV's Lizard Lick Towing enjoyed a strong showing Monday night at 9:30 p.m., with 1.8 million viewers. For its timeslot, the show delivered double-digit growth and ranked among cable's Top 5 entertainment programs with men 18-34 (265,000) and men 18-49 (505,000).

The season 9 premiere of truTV's long-running hit Operation Repo clocked 1.6 million viewers Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., ranking among basic cable's Top 5 programs for the timeslot with men 18-49 (480,000). The show was up a strong 15% with adults 18-49, 12% with men 18-49 and 32% in total viewers compared to the same timeslot last year.

Wipeout delivered another strong performance Friday night, averaging more than 1.1 million viewers and for the 8 and 9 p.m. episodes and delivering double-digit timeslot growth across the board.

Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network earned solid delivery gains (4-13%) in early evening (7-9 p.m.) for the third week of September 2011. Compared to the same time period last year, the network's delivery of kids 6-11 (584,000) grew by 9%, while kids 2-11 (829,000) grew by 4% and kids 9-14 (427,000) grew by 13%.

Cartoon Network's Tuesday night line-up of animated comedies (7-9 p.m.) ranked as television's #1 destinations for boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14, earning between 38-55% growth across the board compared to the same time period last year. The Looney Tunes Show (8 p.m.) was the #1 telecast of the day among all key boy demos. Earning double and triple-digit delivery increases across targeted demos vs. the 2010 time period, the telecast's delivery of kids 6-11 (774,000) grew by 108%, kids 2-11 (1,184,000) by 149%, kids 9-14 (573,000) by 96%, boys 6-11 (541,000) by 98%, boys 2-11 (768,000) by 118% and boys 9-14 (389,000) by 73%. Also on Tuesday, an encore presentation of The Amazing World of Gumball (8:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boy demos, charting between 41% and 123% improvement across the board.

Cartoon Network's overall Monday night (7-9 p.m.) ranked #1 on all television among boys 2-11 and 6-11. The episode premiere of Johnny Test ranked #1 in its time period on all television among boys 2-11, 6-11, 9-14, earning between 26% and 74% delivery increases over the 2010 time period. Similarly, The Amazing World of Gumball (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boys demos, while Adventure Time (8 p.m.), Regular Show (8:15 p.m.) and MAD (8:30, 8:45 p.m.) all ranked #1 in their time periods among boys 2-11 and boys 6-11.

Wednesday night, Cartoon Network ranked as television's #1 destination in early evening (7-9 p.m.) among boys 6-11 and boys 9-14. And Friday night (7-9 p.m.), Cartoon Network was television's #1 destination among boys 9-14.

TBS

TBS's CONAN scored strong growth last week with guests like Ashton Kutcher and Foo Fighters. The Emmy(R)-nominated late-night series averaged 697,000 viewers in Live + Same Day (+13% compared to the previous week); 327,000 adults 18-34 (+17%); and 480,000 adults 18-49 (+14%). CONAN also scored a median age of 32 to continue ranking as television's youngest late-night talk show.
