The Labor Day episodes of TNT's top-rated dramas The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles built on their already outstanding deliveries through time-shifted viewing. The Closer climbed to more than 9 million viewers in Live + 7, the best performance since its July 11 season premiere. The show also delivered 2.5 million adults 18-49 and 3.2 million adults 25-54. Rizzoli & Isles scored a final delivery of more than 9.2 million viewers in Live + 7, the fourth time this season the show eclipsed the 9 million mark. Among demos, the episode grew to 2.6 million adults 18-49 and 3.5 million adults 25-54.
For the year-to-date, Rizzoli & Isles is on pace to repeat its first-season victory as basic cable's most-watched drama. The Closer continues to prove its strength in its seventh and final season, ranking a strong second behind Rizzoli & Isles. The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles are set to return with all-new episodes Monday, Nov. 28.
Adult Swim
Across September, Adult Swim's newest original series NTSF:SD:SUV:: (Thursday, 12:15 a.m.) scored double-digit delivery gains vs. September last year among targeted demos: adults 18-34 (593,000) grew by 12%, adults 18-49 (794,000) grew by 15%, men 18-34 (360,000) grew by 11% and men 18-49 (488,000) grew by 16%.
This September, Adult Swim once more claimed the #1 monthly ranking for Total Day Delivery among adults 18-34 and 18-49, and men 18-34 (#2 among men 18-49, behind ESPN). Averaging double-digit delivery growth across the board vs. September last year, adults 18-34 (582,000) increased by 22%, adults 18-49 (762,000) increased by 16% and men 18-34 (348,000) increased by 19%. Men 18-49 demo delivery also grew by 12%, women 18-34 by 26% and women 18-49 by 23%.
Adult Swim programming accounted for 21 of the top 50 telecasts for the month (September) on basic cable among adults 18-34, and 18 of the top 50 among men 18-34, both more than any other network.
Cartoon Network
Across September 2011, Cartoon Network's Monday and Tuesday nights (7-9 p.m.) ranked #1 on all television among all boys - 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. Wednesday night also ranked #1 for the month for delivery of boys 6-11. The three nights together also helped propel Cartoon Network's overall monthly early evening (7-9 p.m.) to solid delivery growth among kids: Sept. 2011 average kids 6-11 delivery (613,000) increased by 9% and average kids 9-14 delivery (444,000) increased by 15%, both vs. Sept. 2010.
Additionally, both Monday and Tuesday nights (7-9 p.m.) achieved significant double-digit delivery gains across all kids and boys demos vs. Sept. 2010. On Monday nights, average kids 6-11 delivery (968,000) increased by 25%, kids 2-11 (1,251,000) by 10% and kids 9-14 (735,000) by 38%. Among Monday's series highlights, Adventure Time (8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period on all television among kids and boys. On Tuesday nights, average kids delivery improved by an even wider margin, with kids 6-11 delivery (734,000) growing by 45%, kids 2-11 (1,066,000) by 41% and kids 9-14 (524,000) by 48%. Among Tuesday's highlights, The Looney Tunes Show (8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14.
Wednesday night's September presentations of Dude, What Would Happen (8 p.m.) and Destroy Build Destroy (8:30 p.m.) both earned year-over-year delivery improvement with kids 9-14 (up 5% and 3%, respectively) and boys 9-14 (up 2% and 1%, respectively).
truTV
truTV scored a Top 10 finish among basic cable entertainment networks in delivery of men 18-34 for the final week of September. For the month, th3 network garnered 6% growth in primetime for the demo, along with outstanding 13% growth in total day compared to September 2010.
truTV's breakout hit Hardcore Pawn delivered another outstanding performance last week, with more than 1.5 million viewers Tuesday at 9 p.m. and 1.6 million at 9:30 p.m. The episodes also garnered double- and triple-digit demo growth and ranked among ad-supported cable's Top 5 entertainment programs for the Tuesday 9 and 9:30 p.m. timeslots with men 18-34, men 18-49 and total viewers.
truTV's long-running hit Operation Repo chalked up 1.6 million viewers Wednesday at 9 p.m. and ranked among basic cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with adults and men 18-49, as well as total viewers. The show garnered double-digit growth with viewers and key demos compared to the same timeslot last year.
Wipeout drew 1.2 million viewers Friday at 8 p.m., growing to more than 1.3 million viewers at 9 p.m. truTV's biggest acquired series landed Top 5 timeslot rankings among entertainment cable networks for the 8 p.m. hour, including a second-place finish among adults 18-49 and a third-place finish with men 18-34. Wipeout also continues to deliver double-digit time-period growth across the board.
TBS
TBS's CONAN scored growth for the second consecutive week, delivering 719,000 viewers in Live + Same Day, up 3% compared to the previous week and up 16% over the week of Sept. 5. This week, the Emmy?-nominated show also averaged 252,000 adults 18-34 and 463,000 adults 18-49. Meanwhile CONAN's strength in time-shifted viewing continued as the series grew its audience for the week of Sept. 5 by 23% in total viewers for a final Live + 7 tally of 760,000. Adults 18-34 grew by a remarkable 36% to 381,000, and adults 18-49 grew by 30% to 544,000.
