UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - February 7, 2012 - Paced by NBC Sports' telecast of Super Bowl XLVI and the second season debut of "The Voice," NBC won the week in all key measures, averaging a 7.7 rating, 20 share in adults 18-49 and 21.4 million viewers overall for the week of January 30-February 5, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
NBC's telecast of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday goes into the record books as the most-watched Super Bowl ever and most-viewed telecast in U.S. television history, with an average 111.346 million viewers overall. And the second season premiere of "The Voice," which followed the Super Bowl Post-Game show, delivered the highest 18-49 rating for any entertainment program on any network in six years and attracted the biggest overall viewership for any NBC post-Super Bowl telecast since "Friends" in 1996.
NBC Sports' coverage of Super Bowl XLVI, the Super Bowl Post-Game show and "The Voice" were the #1, #2 and #3 programs of the week respectively in all key ratings measures.
With a 7.7 rating for the week in adults 18-49, this marks NBC's highest-rated week in primetime's key demographic since the week of January 26-February 1, 2009 (the week of Super Bowl XLIII). And, with an average 21.4 million viewers for the week, it is NBC's top week by that measure since the week of February 15-21, 2010 (Vancouver Olympics).
Primetime averages for the week of January 30-February 5 in adults 18-49 were NBC (7.7/20), Fox (2.4/6), CBS (1.8/5), ABC (1.5/4) and CW (0.7/2). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were NBC (21.4 million), CBS (8.4 million), Fox (6.8 million), ABC (5.1 million) and CW (1.6 million).
NBC highlights for the week of January 30-February 5:
* On Sunday, Super Bowl XLVI and the second season premiere of "The Voice" propelled NBC to its most-watched night in People Meter history in total viewers and the network's highest rated night in adults 18-49 rating in sixteen years (since Sunday, January 28, 1996; Super Bowl XXX and "Friends").
* The second season premiere of "The Voice" on Sunday delivered a 16.3 rating in adults 18-49, the highest 18-49 rating for any television entertainment program on any broadcast networks in six years, since ABC's post-Super Bowl telecast of "Grey's Anatomy."
* Sunday's telecast of "The Voice" marks NBC's highest-rated post-Super Bowl telecast in adults 18-49 in 14 years, since "3rd Rock from the Sun" in 1998, and NBC's top post-Super Bowl telecast in total viewers since "Friends" in 1996.
* "The Voice" on Sunday is also NBC's highest-rated entertainment telecast overall in both adults 18-49 and total viewers since the series finale of "Friends" in May 2004.
* Versus last year's post-Super Bowl telecast of "Glee," "The Voice" was up by 47 percent in adults 18-49 and 40 percent in total viewers.
* On Friday, the third season premiere of "Who Do You Think You Are?" unearthed NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period so far this season. "Who Do You Think You Are?" ranked #2 versus all broadcast and cable competition in the hour in total viewers
* On Wednesday, "Whitney" grew by 21 percent in adults 18-49 versus the prior week to score its top 18-49 rating since January 11. "Whitney" was up 31 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's average in its time period last season.
* Also on Wednesday, "Are You There, Chelsea?" was up 21 percent in 18-49 rating versus the prior week. "Chelsea" was also up 21 percent in adults 18-49 rating versus NBC's average in its time period last season
* Additionally on Wednesday, a rebroadcast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" ranked #1 in the10 p.m. ET hour in adults 18-49 and other key demographics. Week-to-week, the "Law & Order: SVU" rebroadcast was up 14 percent in adults 18-49 and 44 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers.
* On Tuesday, "The Biggest Loser 13" ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and in all key adult-female demographics. "Loser" grew from its first half-hour to its fourth by 10 percent in adults 18-49 to rank #1 in its final half-hour versus all broadcast and cable competition in adults 18-49 and other key demos.
* On Monday, "Who's Still Standing?" delivered its biggest overall viewership to date in nine telecasts to date and matched its highest 18-49 rating among its six Monday telecasts.

On Monday, January 30 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Who's Still Standing?" (1.7 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) attracted its biggest overall viewership in nine telecasts to date and matched its highest 18-49 rating among its six Monday telecasts.
In total viewers, this marked the third consecutive increase for a Monday edition over a prior telecast, with this week's telecast edging up 1 percent over the prior week (6.582 million vs. 6.439 million), up 5 percent versus the Monday before that (6.186 million) and up 17 percent versus the Monday before that (5.556 million). The Monday, January 30 "Who's Still Standing?" was up 26 percent versus NBC's total viewer average in this time period this season prior to the show's debut.
For a ninth consecutive telecast, "Who's Still Standing?" showed solid growth from its first half-hour to its second, gaining 20 percent from half-hour to half-hour in adults 18-49 (to a 1.8 rating from a 1.5) and 10 percent in total viewers (6.790 million vs. 6.175 million).
Monday at 9-11 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Fear Factor" averaged a 1.5/4 in adults 18-49 and 4.0 million viewers overall.
Monday from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Rock Center with Brian Williams" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers overall.
On Tuesday, January 31 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "The Biggest Loser 13" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and in all key adult-female demographics - women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 - in a slot the included competition from Fox's "Glee," "The New Girl" and "Raising Hope," ABC's "Last Man Standing" encores and "Celebrity Wife Swap" and CBS's encores of "NCIS" and "NCIS: LA."
"The Biggest Loser" gained from its first half-hour to its fourth 10 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.2 from a 2.0) to rank #1 in its final half-hour versus all broadcast and cable competition in adults 18-49 and other key demos.
Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Parenthood" averaged a 0.7/2 in 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers overall.
On Wednesday, February 1 from 8-8:30 p.m. ET, "Whitney" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) grew by 21 percent in adults 18-49 versus the prior week (to a 1.7 rating from a 1.4), to score its top 18-49 rating since January 11, despite time period competition from "American idol" and CBS's "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials."
"Whitney" was up 31 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's average in this time period last season (1.7 vs. 1.3, "live plus same day"). In the time period, "Whitney" ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-34 (tied) and women 18-34. It's worth noting that so far this season, first-run telecasts of "Whitney" have been adding on average 35 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen issues "live plus seven day" results.
Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET, "Are You There, Chelsea?" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall) increased versus the prior week by 21 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.7 from a 1.4). "Chelsea" retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in despite time period competition from the concluding half-hour of "American Idol." And CBS's "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials." "Chelsea" grew versus its lead-in by 8 percent in adults 18-34 (1.4 vs. 1.3) and 13 percent in women 18-34 (1.8 vs. 1.6).
"Are You There, Chelsea?" was up 21 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's average in this time period last season (1.7 vs. 1.4, "live plus same day"). "Chelsea" ranked #2 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-34 and women 18-34
Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" averaged a 1.1/3 in adults 18-49 and 4.8 million viewers overall, growing 31 percent or 1.1 million persons in total viewers versus the prior week's rebroadcast in this time period (4.756 million vs. 3.641 million).
At 10 p.m. ET, a second rebroadcast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in its time period in adults 18-49 and other key demographics. "SVU" built on its lead-in by 45 percent in 18-49 rating and 23 percent in total viewers. Week-to-week, the 10 p.m. "Law & Order: SVU" rebroadcast was up 14 percent in 18-49 rating (1.6 vs. 1.4) and 44 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers (5.837 million vs. 4.053 million). On Thursday, February 2 at 8 p.m. ET, "30 Rock" averaged a 1.3/4 in 18-49, and 3.2 million viewers overall in a highly competitive time period versus Fox's "American Idol," CBS's "Big Bang Theory," ABC's "Wipeout." Note that "30 Rock" has been adding 46 percent to these "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen issues "live plus seven day" results so far this season.
Thursday at 8:30 ET, "Parks and Recreation" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 31 percent in 18-49 rating and 12 percent in total viewers in a highly competitive time period versus Fox's "American Idol," CBS's "Rob" and ABC's "Wipeout." Keep in mind that on average this season, original telecasts of "Parks" have been adding 35 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating when Nielsen includes additional time-shifted viewing in "live plus seven day" ratings.
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, "The Office" (2.8/7 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 65 percent in 18-49 rating and 47 percent in total viewers. "The Office" finished #1 in adults and men 18-34 in a competitive time period versus ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS's "Person of Interest" and Fox's "The Finder." Note that on average this season, original telecasts of "The Office" have been adding 44 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating when Nielsen includes additional time-shifted viewing in "live plus seven day" ratings
Thursday at 9:31 ET, "Up All Night" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults. "Up All Night" finished #2 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults and women 18-34 in a competitive time period opposite the concluding half-hour of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS's "Person of Interest" and Fox's "The Finder." Note that "Up All Night" originals have been adding on average 48 percent to their "live plus same day" 18-49 ratings so far this season when Nielsen reports additional time-shifted viewing in "live plus seven day" ratings.
Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, "The Firm" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 3.0 million viewers overall.
On Friday, February 3 at 8 p.m. ET, the third season premiere of "Who Do You Think You Are?" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) discovered NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period since March 25, 2011, and matched NBC's highest non-sports 18-49 rating in the hour since April 8, 2011 (last season's "Who Do You Think You Are?" finale). "Who Do You Think You Are?" ranked #2 versus all broadcast and cable competition in the hour in total viewers.
Friday at 9 p.m. ET, "Grimm" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 or tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, women 18-34 and in all key adult-male demos. Note that on average this season, "Grimm" originals have been adding 59 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating when Nielsen includes additional time-shifted viewing in "live plus seven day" ratings
Friday from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" averaged a 1.1/3 and 4.7 million viewers overall.
On Saturday, February 4 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Harry's Law" (0.5/2, 4.1 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in its hour among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers.
Saturday from 9-11 p.m. ET, NBC Sports' telecast of "NFL Honors" averaged a 0.7/2 in adults 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "NFL Honors" grew by 25 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.0 from a 0.8) and by 22 percent in total viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.2 million).
On Sunday, Feb. 5, NBC Sports' coverage of Super Bowl XLVI between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants averaged a 40.5/78 in adults 18-49, 111.3 million viewers overall and a 47.0/71 household rating/share for its full duration from 6:31-9:58 p.m. ET. NBC's Super Bowl XLVI Post Game show from 9:58-10:19 p.m. averaged a 30.1/59 in adults 18-49, 76.8 million viewers overall and a 33.7/51 household rating/share.
Sunday from 10:19-11:21 p.m. ET, "The Voice" averaged a 16.3 rating, 37 share in adults 18-49 and 37.6 million viewers overall. This marks the highest 18-49 rating for any television entertainment program on any broadcast networks in six years, since ABC's post-Super Bowl telecast of "Grey's Anatomy" on February 5, 2006.
Sunday's telecast of "The Voice" also marks NBC's highest-rated post-Super Bowl telecast in adults 18-49 in 14 years, since "3rd Rock from the Sun" on January 25, 1998 (a 17.1 rating), and in total viewers, it was NBC's top post-Super Bowl telecast since "Friends" on January 28, 1996 (52.9 million).
"The Voice" on Sunday was also NBC's highest-rated entertainment telecast overall in both adults 18-49 and total viewers since the series finale of "Friends" on May 6, 2004.
Versus last year's post-Super Bowl telecast of "Glee," "The Voice" was up by 47 percent in 18-49 rating (16.3 vs. 11.1) and up 40 percent in total viewers (37.6 million vs. 26.8 million).
This marks new series records for "The Voice" in all key measures. In 18-49 rating, Sunday's post-Super Bowl 16.3 rating was up 186 percent versus the show's previous high (a 5.7 from 9-11 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 3, 2011). In total viewers, Sunday's telecast was up 161 percent versus the show's previous high (14.4 million viewers from 10-11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, following the season premiere of "America's Got Talent").
In primetime Sunday (7-11 p.m.), NBC averaged a 36.3/70 in adults 18-49, and 97.7 million viewers overall. This marks NBC's highest-rated night in 18-49 rating since Sunday, January 28, 1996 (Super Bowl XXX and "Friends"). In total viewers, Sunday, February 5, 2012 now stands as NBC's most-watched night in people meter history.
