Barb Thompson refused to believe that her daughter, Ronda Reynolds, killed herself and launched her own investigation, enlisting the help of renowned true-crime writer Ann Rule. Rule, who ultimately wrote a bestseller based on her extensive work on the case, told Van Sant what she thought really happened to Ronda. Additionally, the broadcast featured interviews with Ronda's former husband, Ron Reynolds, and stepson Jonathan, who have both endured public scrutiny for their alleged involvement in Ronda's death. Van Sant also spoke with several law enforcement officials, who expressed their opposing views on the cause of death.
