"Secret Millionaire" Opens with ABC's Top Regular Summer Audience in the Slot since July '08

With a repeat AFHV leading into the season openers of Secret Millionaire and EM: Weight Loss, ABC ran in a virtual tie with NBC's all-original line up in Adults 18-49, which included the 2012 Miss USA Pageant (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share).
During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat America's Funniest Home Videos took second to CBS' 60 Minutes in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.
Building on its lead in at 8pm by double digits with viewers (+17%) and young adults (+25%), ABC's season premiere of Secret Millionaire earned second in its hour, gaining audience throughout its telecast.
· Secret Millionaire produced ABC's top summertime (Memorial Day-Labor Day) numbers with regular programming in the time period since 2008 in Total Viewers and since 2009 in Adults 18-49 - since 7/6/08 and 8/30/09, respectively.
From 9-11pm, ABC's season opener of EM: Weight Loss finished as the #1 series among Adults 18-49 in its 2-hour time period.
· From its first hour to its second hour opposite competition from the Miss USA Pageant, the ABC unscripted series grew by 9% in Total Viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49.

During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "America's Funniest Home Videos" took second to CBS' "60 Minutes" in Total Viewers (4.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.2/4).
"Secret Millionaire" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Building on its lead in at 8:00 p.m. by double digits with viewers (+17%) and young adults (+25%), ABC's season premiere of "Secret Millionaire" (5.6 million and 1.5/5) earned second in its hour, gaining audience throughout its telecast.

From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC's season opener of "EM: Weight Loss Edition" finished as the No. 1 series among Adults 18-49 (1.5/4) in its 2-hour time period.
· From its first hour to its second hour opposite competition from the "Miss USA Pageant," the ABC unscripted series grew by 9% in Total Viewers (4.4 million to 4.8 million) and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4 to 1.6/4).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 44% currently, from 41% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
