SEASON TO DATE, JAY HAS STRETCHED HIS TOTAL-VIEWER LEAD OVER 'LATE SHOW' TO 18 PERCENT FROM THE YEAR-AGO 12 PERCENT; JIMMY FALLON HAS ALSO INCREASED HIS MARGIN OVER 'LATE LATE SHOW' TO 18 PERCENT , UP FROM LAST YEAR'S 4 PERCENT
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 12, 2012 - NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" have generated bigger audiences than the ABC and CBS time-period competition in all key ratings categories for the week of July 2-6, a holiday week of mostly encore telecasts in which all Wednesday results were excluded.
"Tonight" delivered bigger audiences than the time-period competition of CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. And Jimmy Fallon likewise out-delivered CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and "Kimmel" head to head for their common half-hour in each of those categories.
Through the first 42 weeks of the 2011-12 broadcast year, "Tonight" has increased its total-viewer margin over "Late Show" to 18 percent (3.683 million vs. 3.124 million), up from the year-ago season-to-date advantage of 12 percent. Jimmy Fallon has also established a total-viewer lead over "Late Late Show" this season of 18 percent (1.754 million vs. 1.491 million), up from last year's advantage of 4 percent. Jimmy has also increased his season-to-date lead over "Late Late Show" in adults 18-34, to 44 percent (273,000 vs. 190,000) up from last year's 28 percent, and in adults 25-54, up to 13 percent (850,000 vs. 753,000) from 6 percent at this point last season.
"Tonight" delivered a bigger 18-49 audience than "Late Show" for the 25th time in 29 weeks while Jimmy Fallon attracted a bigger 18-49 audience than "Late Late Show" for a 32nd week in a row.
