48 HOURS: "Everything to Lose" was Saturday night's #1 program in both households and viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Dec. 8, 2012. 48 HOURS (10:00-11:00 PM) was first in both households (3.6/07) and viewers (5.44m).
Saturday's broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger's report on the 2009 murder of Dana Clair Edwards in the wealthy San Antonio, Texas, enclave of Alamo Heights. Her mother, Deborah Edwards, was determined to get her daughter's killer locked up. Frustrated with the investigation, Edwards took matters into her own hands. She began taunting the alleged killer, Jon Thomas Ford, with notes and emails marking anniversaries, birthdays and holidays, like one that read "Mother's Day - Never the same."
Police arrested Ford, a former boyfriend of Dana Clair, a year after the murder. The trial pitted three top San Antonio prosecutors against the famed defense attorney Dick DeGuerin, who represented Ford. But could they convince a jury Ford killed Edwards, despite lost evidence and mistakes in the investigation?
48 HOURS: "Everything to Lose" includes interviews with Edwards' family, police, the prosecution, jurors and Ford's attorney. 48 HOURS: "Everything to Lose" is produced by Chris O'Connell. Ryan Smith is the field producer. Richard Barber is the producer/editor. Bruce Spiegel is the editor. Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Al Briganti is the executive editor.
