ABC's "Home Edition" Surges/"Castle" Tops Year-Ago Repeat by Wide Margins

With back-to-back episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition leading into a repeat Castle, ABC's Monday schedule topped Fox's broadcast of the American Country Awards 2012 by 10% in Total Viewers and matched the awards show in Adults 18-49.
· The Net's Monday night delivery grew week to week by 17% in Adults 18-49.

During the 8 o'clock hour, the first episode of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was up over the prior week by 1.0 million viewers and by 44% in Adults 18-49.
Building over its lead-in at 9pm with viewers (+10%) and young adults (+15%), the second installment of Home Edition attracted a bigger audience than the second hour of Fox's American Country Awards.
· Spiking 50% week to week in Adults 18-49, Home Edition posted the series' highest rating in its 6 telecasts on the night this season.
Increasing over its lead-in during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat Castle drew a larger audience than NBC's Michael Buble: Home for the Holidays special.
· ABC's Castle rose sharply over its encore telecast on the same night last year in Total Viewers (+44%) and Adults 18-49 (+44%).

· The Net's Monday night delivery grew week to week by 17% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4 vs. 1.2/3).

Increasing over its lead-in during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "Castle" drew a larger audience than NBC's "Michael Bubl�: Home for the Holidays" special (5.9 million vs. 5.8 million).
· ABC's "Castle" rose sharply over its encore telecast on the same night last year (12/12/11) in Total Viewers (+44% - 5.9 million vs. 4.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+44% - 1.3/3 vs. 0.9/2).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 46% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
