During the week of April 8, 2013, ABC's "Modern Family" was the No. 1 scripted TV show in Adults 18-49. And retaining a strong 86% of its debut with Adults 18-49 in its second week, with greatly improved lead-in retention for ABC out of "Modern Family," "How to Live with Your Parents" finished as the week's No. 6 scripted series and the No. 1 freshman show. In addition, ABC's "DWTS" (No. 7) and "DWTS: The Results Show" (No. 10) both ranked among the week's Top 10 most-watched TV shows overall.
Please Note: During the week, ABC's Thursday dramas ("Grey's"/"Scandal") were in repeat, as well as "Shark Tank" on Friday, and its Sunday lineup was in repeats ("AFHV"/"Revenge"/"Red Widow") with a clip show for "Once Upon a Time."
Monday
"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:01 p.m.)
Gaining viewers and young adults from its first hour to its second hour, despite going up against the 2013 NCAA Basketball Championship Game, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" grew week to week in Women 18-34 (+6% - 1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5) to post a best-since premiere number.
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "Castle" outdrew an original of NBC's "The Voice"-driven "Revolution" by 1.1 million viewers (7.2 million vs. 6.1 million). In addition, the encore ABC drama stood as Monday's most-watched scripted series (4th straight telecast), also topping Fox's first-run "The Following" (6.3 million from 9:00-10:00 p.m.) by nearly 1.0 million viewers. "Castle" delivered its most-watched repeat telecast in nearly 2 years - since 4/25/11.
Tuesday
ABC (8.8 million) was the 2nd-most-watched TV network on Tuesday night, outdrawing NBC with "The Voice" and the debut of "Ready for Love" by 1.9 million viewers (6.9 million) and Fox by 4.8 million viewers (4.0 million).
"Splash" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Gaining viewers (+10%) and young adults (+8%) from start to finish in the 8:00 p.m. hour against NBC's "The Voice" and CBS' top-rated "NCIS," ABC freshman "Splash" attracted a larger audience than Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" (+15% - 5.2 million vs. 4.5 million) for the 3rd straight week.
"DWTS: The Results Show" (9:00-10:01 p.m.)
Surging over its lead-in at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "DWTS: The Results Show" took second place in the hour with Adults 18-49 (2.0/5-tie) and Total Viewers (12.1 million). Among Adults 18-49, ABC's dancing results show beat out the opening hour of NBC's "The Voice"-led debut of "Ready for Love" by 18% (1.7/5) and Fox's comedies by 11% ("New Girl"/"The Mindy Project" = 1.8/5). Lisa Vanderpump was the third celebrity to leave the competition this season.
"Body of Proof" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
For the 3rd Tuesday in a row, ABC's "Body of Proof" (9.0 million) was the most-watched TV show in the 10 o'clock hour, beating CBS' "Golden Boy" by 1.1 million viewers (7.9 million) and nearly tripling the second hour of NBC's "Ready for Love" opener (+190% - 3.1 million). In addition, the ABC drama ranked No. 1 in the hour for the 3rd consecutive week with Adults 25-54 (2.2/6-tie) and outdelivered the NBC unscripted premiere in Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.4/4 vs. 1.3/4).
· Building week to week in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), "Body of Proof" drew its 2nd-biggest audience this season.
Wednesday
Wednesday's No. 1 TV show for the 2nd week in a row, ABC's "Modern Family" outperformed Fox's "American Idol" on the night by 19% in Adults 18-49 (3.8/10 vs. 3.2/9), now beating or tying "Idol" on each of its last 4 originals. Out of "Modern," "How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)" continued to deliver improved lead-in retention for ABC at 9:30 p.m. and held a promising 86% of its week-ago debut rating.
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m.)
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "The Middle" was up week to week in Total Viewers (+4% - 7.5 million vs. 7.2 million) and held 100% of its Adult 18-49 rating (2.0/7), drawing its biggest overall audience and matching its best young adult number since February 27, 2013. "The Middle" was also up over its year-ago telecast by 6% in viewers.
"Suburgatory" (8:30-9:00 p.m.)
With solid retention of its lead-in at 8:30 p.m., ABC's "Suburgatory" held nearly all of its week-ago time-period premiere with Total Viewers (97% - 5.6 million vs. 5.8 million) and 100% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5). "Suburgatory" beat the second half-hour of CBS' "Survivor" by 7% with Women 18-34.
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m.)
Growing over its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+111%), ABC's "Modern Family" (3.8/10) won its half-hour by 15% over "American Idol" (3.3/9) and defeated its nearest scripted competition in the slot by 27% (CBS' "Criminal Minds" = 3.0/8).
"How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)" (9:31 -10:00 p.m.)
With greatly improved lead-in retention over the Net's season averages in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour (original to original) in viewers (70% vs. 58%) and young adults (66% vs. 53%), ABC's "How to Live with Your Parents" held strong with its week-ago debut telecast in Total Viewers (87% - 7.3 million vs. 8.4 million), Adults 18-49 (86% - 2.5/7 vs. 2.9/8), Men 18-34 (93%) and Men 18-49 (89%).
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Posting its 2nd straight telecast of growth during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Nashville" was up week to week in viewers (+9% - 6.0 million vs. 5.5 million) and young adults (+6% - 1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5), hitting its best numbers since January - since 1/16/13 and 1/23/13, respectively. Delivering among the biggest increases in TV playback this season, "Nashville's" Adult 18-49 rating for originals spikes 63% on average (going from a 1.9 in L+SD to a 3.1 rating in L+7), making it one of the Top 10 biggest gainers on broadcast television this season and tying "Revolution" as the top freshman gainer.
Thursday
"Wife Swap" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
In the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's "Wife Swap" outdrew NBC's comedies in the hour ("Community"/"Parks and Recreation") by 1.5 million viewers (4.5 million vs. 3.0 million). Opposite the second half of Fox's "American Idol," "Wife Swap" jumped by 23% in Adults 18-49 from its first half-hour to its second half-hour (1.3/4 to 1.5/5). Growing week to week by 13% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 4.0 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4 vs. 1.3/4), "Wife Swap" scored its 2nd-best numbers this season, marking the show's 2nd-strongest performance since April 2009 - since 4/17/09.
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:02 p.m.)
At 9:00 p.m., an encore telecast of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" (4.5 million) attracted 1.2 million more Viewers than NBC's original comedies ("The Office"/season finale of "Go On" = 3.3 million). The ABC drama delivered its best repeat performance in more than 1 year in both Total Viewers (4.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/3) - since 3/22/12 and 3/8/12, respectively.
Friday
Although "Shark Tank" was a repeat in the middle hour of the night, ABC tied CBS' all-original lineup in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4), while beating NBC by 50% (0.8/3). Season to date, ABC is the No. 1 network on Friday in Adults 18-49, with its strongest delivery on the night in 4 years - since the 2008-09 season.
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m.)
In the 9 o'clock hour, a repeat of ABC's "Shark Tank" topped its network rivals in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4), dominating CBS' original "Vegas" by 75% (0.8/3) and defeating encores of Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" by 40% (1.0/3) and NBC's "Grimm" by 100% (0.7/2). The repeat ABC unscripted series ranked No. 1 in the hour in Adults 25-54 and Men 25-54.
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
At 10:00 p.m., ABC's "20/20' ranked No. 1 in the 10 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 (1.6/5) versus its CBS and NBC competition, beating CBS' "Blue Bloods" by 23% (1.3/4) and NBC's "Rock Center with Brian Williams" by 100% (0.8/3). In addition, "20/20" outdelivered its NBC newsmagazine competition by 2.4 million viewers (5.5 million vs. 3.1 million) and by 82% in Adults 25-54 (2.0/6 vs. 1.1/3), defeating "Rock Center" in all 10 head-to-head matchups in both key Adult demos. With reports on an internet Casanova, insurance scammers and squatters, "20/20" examined wide ranging behavior that some call shameless.
Saturday
"Bet on Your Baby" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
During the 8 o'clock hour, the debut of ABC's "Bet on Your Baby" outdelivered NBC's original "Smash" by 28% in Total Viewers (2.3 million vs. 1.8 million) and by 25% in Adults 18-49 (0.5/2 vs. 0.4/1).
· The new ABC unscripted series improved its hour by strong double-digit percentages, over the Net's averages this season with entertainment programming, in Women 18-34 (+25%) and Teens 12-17 (+67%).
· "Bet on Your Baby" grew from its first half-hour to its second half-hour by 20% in Adults 18-49 (0.5/2 to 0.6/2).
