"TONIGHT SHOW," "LATE NIGHT" ENCORES DEFEAT TIMESLOT COMPETITION IN TOTAL VIEWERS FOR WEEK OF OCT. 14-18
Leno, Fallon Continue to Earn Year-to-Year Gains, Top CBS Programs in All Key Demos
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Oct. 24, 2013 - Encore telecasts of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" have generated bigger total-viewer results than their ABC and CBS time-period competition during the week of Oct. 14-18.
In 18-49, "The Tonight Show" tied ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in 18-49 rating for the week, while both "Tonight" and "Late Night" topped CBS's original competition in every key ratings measure. Note that Friday's "Kimmel" was a rebroadcast.
Leno's encores topped both CBS's originals of "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's "Kimmel" on four of five nights last week in viewers 18-49.
Both Leno and Fallon once again generated substantial year-to-year gains for the week and the season to date. Leno is off to his biggest start four weeks into a new TV season in three years in 18-49 viewers and biggest in two years in total viewers. Fallon is at a three-year high in 18-49 and has generated his biggest overall audience four weeks into a new season in the five years he's been hosting "Late Night."
Versus the first four weeks of the year-ago season, Leno is up 16% in 18-49 viewers (with 1.098 million vs. 933,000) and up 11% in total viewers (3.560 million vs. 3.216 million).
Fallon is up 27% in 18-49 viewers (765,000 vs. 602,000) so far this season and up 18% in total viewers (1.823 million vs. 1.545 million).
At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" is also delivering sizable gains versus the first four weeks of last season, up 22% in 18-49 viewers (422,000 vs. 347,000) and up 11% in total viewers (946,000 vs. 852,000).
"Tonight" has now delivered bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Show" for the last 48 weeks in a row and topped "Kimmel" for 37 of their 41 head-to-head weeks. In total viewers, Leno has out-delivered "Late Show" for 52 weeks in a row and "Kimmel" for 41 of 41 weeks.
Fallon has now generated bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Late Show" for 53 of the last 54 weeks and prevailed in total viewers for 50 of the last 52 weeks. Versus "Nightline" in their head-to-head half-hour, Fallon has out-delivered the ABC series for 41 of 41 weeks in viewers 18-49 and 36 of 38 weeks in total viewers.
