During the week of December 2, 2013, ABC was up 14% over the prior week among Adults 18-49 (1.6/5 vs. 1.4/4) and improved 7% over the same week last year (1.5/4 on w/o 12/03/12). The Net delivered 4 of the Top 20 non-sports broadcasts in Adults 18-49, including 2 of the Top 8: "Modern Family" - No. 5, "Scandal" - No. 8, "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 16 and "Once Upon a Time" - No. 20. Please Note: "S.H.I.E.L.D." was in repeat during the week.
Season to Date (Most Current Ratings - 11 Complete Weeks): Season to date, based on non-sports programming, ABC ranks No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (2.6 rating-tied w/ CBS and NBC), leading Fox by 18% (2.2 rating). In addition, the Net is retaining 100% of its Adult 18-49 audience from the same point last season.
Monday
With an encore of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "CMA Country Christmas," ABC was the 2nd-most-watched broadcaster on Monday night to NBC's original schedule, outdrawing CBS' original Monday line-up by 4% (7.3 million vs. 7.0 million).
· The Net was up from an all-original Monday last year (5.8 million and 1.2/3 on 12/3/12) by 26% in Total Viewers and by 42% in Adults 18-49.
"A Charlie Brown Christmas" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 7.1 million and 1.9/5 in AD18-49):
During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's annual encore of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" outdelivered Fox's original "Almost Human" by 20% in Total Viewers (7.1 million vs. 5.9 million) and by 12% in Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 vs. 1.7/5). The animated hour was a strong No. 1 among the broadcasters with Kids 2-11 (2.5/8), delivering a nearly 2-year high in the time period for ABC - since 12/19/11. The Christmas PEANUTS special increased from last year's December telecast (5.8 million and 1.7/5 on 12/18/12) by 1.3 million viewers and by 12% in Adults 18-49.
"CMA Country Christmas" (9:00-11:00 p.m. - 7.4 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
Despite facing stiffer 9:00-11:00 p.m. competition this year from "The Voice" and "Blacklist" (last year it aired on Thursday against mostly repeats), "CMA Country Christmas" was up over last year's telecast (7.2 million and 1.4/4 on 12/20/12) in both viewers (+3%) and young adults (+7%). In fact "CMA Country Christmas" drew its 2nd-best numbers.
Tuesday
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Repeat" (8:00-9:01 p.m. - 3.4 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
· Based on season-to-date Live + 7 Day ratings for originals, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is Tuesday's No. 1 TV show this season with Adults 18-49 (4.9 rating), outdelivering NBC's "The Voice" by 4% (4.7 rating) and CBS' "NCIS" by 17% (4.2 rating).
"The Goldbergs" (9:01-9:31 p.m. - 4.6 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49):
In the 9:00 p.m. half-hour, ABC freshman "The Goldbergs" built on its repeat "S.H.I.E.L.D." lead-in by 35% in Total Viewers and by 75% in Adults 18-49, placing No. 2 to NBC's "The Voice" with young adults (tie). "The Goldbergs" was Tuesday's most-watched comedy overall for its 10th consecutive telecast.
· "The Goldbergs" improved its time period year to year, growing the half-hour by 35% in Total Viewers and 8% in Adults 18-49 over original comedy programming on the year-ago night ("Happy Endings" = 3.4 million and 1.3/3 on 12/4/12).
"Trophy Wife" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 3.4 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Trophy Wife" returned for its first telecast in 3 weeks to outdraw Fox's "The Mindy Project" in the slot by 48% (3.4 million vs. 2.3 million).
· "Trophy Wife" improved its half-hour by 13% in Total Viewers year to year, topping original comedy programming on the same night last year ("Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23" = 3.0 million on 12/4/12).
Wednesday
Returning to its original lineup after the prior week's Thanksgiving Eve repeats, ABC ranked No. 2 on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (1.9/6-tied w/CBS), beating Fox by 36% (2-hour "The X-Factor" = 1.4/4).
· ABC's "Modern Family" finished as Wednesday's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49, standing as the night's top-rated series on each first-run telecast this season.
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 7.4 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., "The Middle" outdelivered Fox's "The X-Factor" by 2.4 million viewers (7.4 million vs. 5.0 million) and by 46% in Adults 18-49 (1.9/6 vs. 1.3/4). In addition, the ABC comedy earned second place in its half-hour with Adults 25-54 and key Men (M18-49/M25-54).
"Back in the Game" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 5.1 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49):
In the 8:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Back in the Game" drew a bigger audience than "The X-Factor" (5.13 vs. 5.12 million) and tied the Fox unscripted series in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4).
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 9.5 million and 3.2/9 in AD18-49):
More than doubling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+129%), ABC's "Modern Family" won by 14% over runner-up NBC's "SNL Christmas" (3.2/9 vs. 2.8/8).
"Super Fun Night" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.6/4 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Super Fun Night" beat the final half-hour of Fox's "The X-Factor" by 7% (1.6/4 vs. 1.5/4).
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.7 million and 1.6/5 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Nashville" equaled a 9-week high in Adults 18-49 - since 10/2/13. In addition, the ABC sophomore drama grew 9% from its last original in Adults 18-34.
· On average, "Nashville" is ABC's biggest percentage gainer in TV playback this season, spiking 71% in Adults 18-49 (+1.2 rating points) from L+SD to L+7.
Thursday
In Adults 18-49, ABC's "Scandal" finished as the No. 2 TV series on Thursday for its 4th-straight telecast, behind only CBS' "The Big Bang Theory." In addition, "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy" continued to stand as Thursday's Top 2 dramas with young adults.
"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.2 million and 0.9 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC's "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" grew over its most recent telecast by 33% in Adults 18-34, matching its highest numbers since October 24, 2013.
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 7.0 million and 2.3/6 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in by 156% at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" beat out its regular time period competition in Adults 18-49, leading CBS' comedies in the hour (+5% - "The Crazy Ones"/"Two and a Half Men" = 2.2/6) and more than doubling Fox's "Glee" (+109% - 1.1/3).
"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 8.3 million and 3.0/8 in AD18-49):
Building on its "Grey's" lead-in against the final hour of NBC's "Sound of Music" by a best-ever 30% at 10:00 p.m., ABC's "Scandal" was up over its last telecast in Adults 18-49 (+3%) to earn its best number since mid-October - since 10/17/13.
· Despite big competition, "Scandal" surged by double-digit percentages year to year (7.4 million and 2.5/7 on 12/6/12) in Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+20%). On average, "Scandal" is up 57% over the same point last year in Adults 18-49, making it TV's fastest-growing returning series this season and ABC's highest-rated show in the time slot since "Lost" during the 2007-08 season.
· Season to date in the C3 Adult 18-49 ratings, ABC's "Scandal" (3.58 rating) just moved ahead of NBC's "Blacklist" (3.55 rating), with the most recent week of data, to become the season's No. 1 broadcast drama in the key advertiser measure.
Friday
ABC ranked No. 1 on Friday in Total Viewers (6.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.4/4-tie). The Net's "Shark Tank" was Friday's most-watched TV show overall and once again finished as the No. 1 program in Adults 18-49.
· Up for its 2nd straight telecast in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%), "Shark Tank" drew the series' biggest audience ever and equaled a season high in young adults.
"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m. - 6.3 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., "Last Man Standing" was up 17% from its last telecast two weeks ago in Adults 18-49 to match a best-since-premiere rating and grew its overall audience for its 2nd straight telecast to deliver a 5-week high in Total Viewers - since 9/20/13 and 11/1/13, respectively.
"The Neighbors" (8:31-9:00 p.m. - 4.3 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):
At 8:30 p.m., "The Neighbors" was up over its most recent telecast two weeks ago by 6% in Total Viewers to draw its biggest audience in 1 month - since 11/8/13.
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 7.5 million and 2.0/6 in AD18-49):
More than doubling its lead-in (+122%) at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Shark Tank" posted a dominant win in its hour, beating runner-up NBC's "Grimm" by 25% (2.0/6 vs. 1.6/5). Season to date, "Shark Tank" has gained 14% in Adults 18-49 over the same point last year to the series' best performance ever.
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 5.0 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
ABC's "20/20" ranked No. 1 in the 10 o'clock hour with Adults 18-49 (tie) and Adults 25-54 (tie). "20/20" featured a celebration of the life of Nelson Mandela, including details of his passing, world-wide reaction, plans for his funeral and images of the day. The ABC newsmagazine surged week to week by 22% in Adults 18-49 and by 14% in Adults 25-54.
Saturday
"Saturday Night Football" (8:07-11:41 p.m. - 5.7 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):
With coverage of the ACC Championship Game (Duke vs. Florida State), ABC's "Saturday Night Football" was up over the prior week's game by 2.2 million Total Viewers and by 70% among Adults 18-49.
Sunday
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 7.0 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
In the 7 o'clock hour opposite Fox's big NFL overrun (San Francisco-Seattle), "America's Funniest Home Videos" was up week to week in Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+25%), drawing its biggest audience this season and hitting a new season-high with young adults.
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 6.9 million and 2.2/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Once Upon a Time" built on its lead-in by 47% in Adult 18-49 to beat out the opening hour of CBS' 2-hour "Amazing Race" finale (2.2/5 vs. 2.1/5). The ABC drama was once again Sunday's most social broadcast series with 45,492 tweets.
· "Once Upon a Time" was up week to week in viewers (+5%) and young adults (+16%), earning 5-week highs on both measures - since 11/3/13.
"Revenge" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 6.0 million and 1.6/4 in AD18-49):
On its first broadcast in 3 weeks, ABC's "Revenge" grew its numbers for its 2nd straight telecast in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).
