TBS's hit sitcom Cougar Town kicked off its fifth season Tuesday night, drawing more than 2.4 million viewers in Live+3 delivery. Among key demos, the season premiere garnered 1.5 million adults 18-49 and 668,000 adults 18-34 in Live+3 viewing. A new episode airs tonight at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with Matthew Perry as guest star.
Part one of the two-part season finale of TBS's original sitcom Ground Floor scored more than 1.8 million viewers in Live + 3 viewing (+4% vs. the prior week). The comedy also drew 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 624,000 adults 18-34. Part two of the Ground Floor season finale will air Thursday at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).
TBS's telecasts of The Big Bang Theory accounted for all 15 of basic cable's Top 15 sitcom telecasts for the week among total viewers and adults 18-49.
TNT
TNT's hit drama Major Crimes ranked as basic cable's #1 original series for the fourth consecutive week. Last Monday's episode scored more than 6.5 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, including 1.9 million adults 25-54 and more than 1.4 million adults 18-49.
TNT's Thursday night NBA on TNT telecast - featuring the Miami Heat and New York Knicks - averaged more than 3.1 million viewers, an increase of +117% over last year's comparable Knicks/Pacers game. Overall, the NBA on TNT doubleheader - which also featured the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Denver Nuggets - averaged more than 2.1 million viewers, a +71% increase over last year's coverage (Knicks/Pacers; Miami/Portland).
Adult Swim
Across the second week of January 2014, Adult Swim resumed its #1 ranking for Total Day Delivery of adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24 & 18-34 on basic cable.
Among the network's original programming, Thursday night's new episode premiere of Eagleheart (12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all targeted adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24/18-34. All targeted male demos increased delivery vs. the same time period last year, ranging between 4% and 13%.
Adult Swim's Saturday night TOONAMI block of exclusive anime programming included new episodes of Space Dandy (11:30 p.m.), Bleach (12 a.m.), Naruto (12:30 a.m.), Soul Eater (1:30 a.m.) and Sword Art Online (2 a.m.), each ranking #1 in their respective timeslots on basic cable among adults 18-24/18-34 and men 18-24/18-34. One Piece (1 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-24 and men 18-24/18-34. Most of the TOONAMI premiere episodes earned double-digit gains across all key adults and men vs. last year.
Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken and Bobs Burgers - accounted for 27 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable last week among adults 18-34, and 29 of the top 50 with men 18-34, both more than any other network.
Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network ranked as the #1 television network among targeted boys 9-14 on Wednesday Night (7-9 p.m.), growing average delivery increases among kids 9-14 by +10% vs. the same time period last year.
The new episode premiere of Dreamworks Dragons: Defenders of Berk (Wednesday, 8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among boys 2-11 & 9-14, growing all targeted kids 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 (between 5% and 58%) and boys 2-11 & 9-14 (between 2% and 26%) vs. the same time period last year. Immediately prior to this, a new episode of Teen Titans GO! (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period with boys 9-14, while increasing kids 9-14 and boys 9-14 delivery by 25% and 8%, respectively, vs. last year.
Cartoon Network also was the #1 television network among boys 2-11 & 6-11 on Thursday Night (7-9 p.m.), increasing overall delivery among kids 2-11 by 5%, kids 6-11 by 4% and boys 2-11 by 3%. Friday Night (7-9 p.m.) also earned delivery gains vs. the same time period last year among kids 2-11 (+7%) & kids 6-11 (15%).
Saturday Morning's action-adventure line-up (7-11 a.m.) earned overall delivery gains among kids 2-11 & 6-11 and boys 2-11 & 6-11 between 2% and 28% vs. the same time period last year. The special Pokémon: Mewtwo's Awakening (8:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among boys 9-14.
truTV
A new episode of truTV's hilarious hit Impractical Jokers drew 1.6 million viewers Thursday night at 10 p.m., a strong +13% rise over last week's season premiere. Among key demos, Impractical Jokers ranked as one of ad-supported cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with adults 18-49 and men 18-49. It was also the #1 entertainment programs in its timeslot among adults 18-34, with its audience charting a remarkably young median age of 30.
