TNT's hit original series Major Crimes closed out its second season Monday night with 5.4 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery, a +10% increase over the prior week. Monday night's episode of Major Crimes caps a strong second season that saw the drama rank among basic cable's Top 10 original series of 2013. For the season, Major Crimes has averaged 6.7 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery (through Dec. 23), with 2.1 million adults 25-54 and 1.5 million adults 18-49. The series is set to return for its third season this summer.
Major Crimes focuses on how the American justice system approaches the art of the deal as law enforcement officers and prosecutors work together to score a conviction. The series stars two-time Oscar(R) nominee Mary McDonnell as Los Angeles Police Captain Sharon Raydor. She heads an extraordinary ensemble cast that includes G.W. Bailey as Lieutenant Provenza, Tony Denison as Lieutenant Andy Flynn, Michael Paul Chan as Lieutenant Mike Tao, Raymond Cruz as Detective Julio Sanchez, Kearran Giovanni as Detective Amy Sykes, Phillip P. Keene as tech coordinator Buzz Watson and Jonathan Del Arco as Dr. Morales. Robert Gossett plays Assistant Chief Russell Taylor, Raydor's boss, and Nadine Velazquez is Deputy District Attorney Emma Rios, who has been assigned to work with Raydor's team to build successful cases and secure plea deals whenever possible.
Also starring in Major Crimes is Graham Patrick Martin as Rusty Beck, a homeless teen and material witness taken in by Captain Raydor. Rusty's story reached a critical point in the season finale as he prepared to take the witness stand against a serial rapist/killer. Now available on-demand, online and via streaming through the Watch TNT app, the season finale also features guest stars Jon Tenney, reprising his role from The Closer as FBI Agent Fritz Howard, and Jeri Ryan as a tough attorney who doesn't let morals stand in the way of winning a case.
"After launching as basic cable's #1 new series in 2012, Major Crimes came back with a second season packed with fascinating and exciting cases and a powerful personal story involving Captain Raydor and Rusty, the young witness in her care," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "It was all brought together by one of the best acting ensembles on television and a production team that is second-to-none. We are enormously happy with the success of Major Crimes and look forward to another exceptional season this summer."
Major Crimes is produced by The Shephard/Robin Company and Walking Entropy, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television. James Duff, Greer Shephard & Michael M. Robin, Rick Wallace and Adam Belanoff serve as executive producers.
