During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was up from its most-recent encore telecast on 12/17/13 in Total Viewers (+12% - 3.7 million vs. 3.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 0.9/2 vs. 0.8/3).

The Goldbergs (9-9:30pm - 4.7 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):

In the 9pm half-hour, ABC's The Goldbergs spiked over its repeat S.H.I.E.L.D. lead-in by 1.0 million viewers and by 67% in Adults 18-49. The Goldbergs stood as Tuesday's most-watched comedy, outdrawing all 4 of Fox's sitcoms on the night, with a 1.0 million viewer advantage over New Girl in their common half-hour (4.7 million vs. 3.7 million). The ABC freshman comedy was up from the last time it followed an encore S.H.I.E.L.D. on 12/3/13 in both Total Viewers (+2% - 4.7 million vs. 4.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (+7% - 1.5/4 vs. 1.4/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 47% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year- to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
