TBS topped the charts for the week as basic cable's #1 network in primetime delivery of adults 18-34, driven in part by three original sitcoms.
TBS's hit original sitcom Cougar Town scored 2.1 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery for Tuesday night's episode. In the demos, the show drew 1.3 million adults 18-49 in Live+3 and bumped its delivery of adults 18-34 up slightly over the prior week with a tally of 672,000.
The season three premiere of TBS's original sitcom Men at Work grabbed more than 1.5 viewers in Live+3 delivery on Wednesday, including 1.0 million adults 18-49 and 561,000 adults 18-34. And the original sitcom Ground Floor closed out its first season on Thursday with 1.7 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, including 1.0 million adults 18-49 and 598,000 adults 18-34.
Adult Swim
Across the third week of January 2014, Adult Swim's average Total Day Delivery performance ranked #1 on basic cable among all targeted young adult demos, including adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49.
Average young adult delivery for Thursday night's original episode premiere of Eagleheart (12 a.m.) grew among all targeted young adults (18-24, 18-34 & 18-49) - ranging between 5% and 15% - vs. the same time period last year.
Saturday night's exclusive TOONAMI block (11:30 p.m.-2:30 a.m.) of anime programming scored solid gains among key programming: Space Dandy (11:30 p.m.), Bleach (12 a.m.) and Naruto (12:30 a.m.) all ranked #1 in their respective timeslots among targeted men demos 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49. Bleach and Naruto also ranked #1 in their time periods among adults 18-34. Naruto earned year-over-year delivery gains across all targeted young adults and men 18-24/18-49, while Bleach improved delivery of adults 18-34, 18-49 and all men demos; Space Dandy grew among men 18-24 & 18-49.
Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, American Dad and Robot Chicken - accounted for 22 of the Top 50 telecasts among adults 18-34 on basic cable last week, and 27 of the Top 50 among men 18-34, both more than any other network.
Cartoon Network
Looking at the third week of January 2014, Cartoon Network's Early Evening (Mon-Sun, 7-9 p.m.) delivery grew by 5% vs. the same week last year among kids 2-11. Compared to the previous four weeks, overall delivery also increased across all targeted kid demos - kids 2-11 by 13%, kids 6-11 by 12% and kids 9-14 by 6%.
Cartoon Network ranked as the #1 television network among boys 9-14 on Monday Night (7-9 p.m.). This week's new episode premiere of original animated series Adventure Time (7 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among boys 9-14, growing delivery of targeted kids 2-11 by 17%, boys 2-11 by 22% and boys 6-11 by 3%. Immediately following, original series Regular Show's 7:30 p.m. premiere scored as the #1 telecast of the day among boys 9-14, and ranked #1 in its time period among boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.
Cartoon Network also claimed the #1 television network among boys 6-11 & 9-14 on Tuesday Night (7-9 p.m.), increasing delivery of kids 2-11 by 4%, kids 6-11 by 8% and boys 2-11 by 3%. The new episode premiere of original animated series Uncle Grandpa (8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all targeted boy demos, growing by significant double-digits among kids 2-11 (+25%) and kids 6-11 (38%), boys 2-11 (26%) and boys 6-11 (23%) vs. the same time period last year. Exclusive animated series Johnny Test (7:30 p.m.) claimed its timeslot, ranking #1 among all targeted boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.
Cartoon Network was the #1 television destination among boys 6-11 on Wednesday Night (7-9 p.m.), with new episode premieres of original series Teen Titans Go! (7:30 p.m.) and Dragons: Defenders of Berk (8 p.m.) ranking #1 their respective timeslots among all targeted boy demos, and increasing delivery of kids 9-14 - between 1% and 8% - vs. last year's time period.
Cartoon Network also ranked as the #1 television destination among boys 2-11 & 6-11 on Thursday Night (7-9 p.m.).
TNT
TNT's hit drama Major Crimes ranked as basic cable's #1 scripted series for the week, garnering 7.1 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, a +9% increase over the prior week. In key demos, Major Crimes drew 2.0 million adults 25-54 in Live + 3 (+3% vs. the prior week) and 1.5 million adults 18-49 (+5%).
TNT's real-life crime series Cold Justice drew 1.4 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery for Friday's season premiere. The show scored strong growth among TNT's target demos, with the season premiere averaging 664,000 adults 25-54 (+24% vs. season 1 average) and 611,000 adults 18-49 (+51% vs. season 1 average).
truTV
truTV's hit series Hardcore Pawn and Impractical Jokers each scored solid numbers last week, with Hardcore Pawn taking in 1.7 million viewers and Impractical Jokers garnering 1.5 million viewers. Both series also scored time-period growth and ranked among cable's Top 5 cable entertainment programs in their respective timeslots with male demos.
