Tuesday's Broadcast Ratings: NBC Tops Demos with Its State of the Union Coverage

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/28/14):

NBC (5.928 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.5, #1) won the demo race on Tuesday thanks to a new "The Biggest Loser" (6.641 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) followed by a two-hour "NBC News Special" (5.571 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4).

CBS (8.217 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #2) then claimed the silver with its mix of an "NCIS" (11.433 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) repeat, "CBS News Special" (7.425 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #5) and a second run of "Two and a Half Men" (4.159 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12).

Next up was FOX (3.108 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3) with a new "Dads" (3.903 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) alongside a repeat "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (3.337 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T6) and "FOX News Special" (2.852 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10).

Meanwhile, The CW (2.519 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3) served up fresh installments of "The Originals" (2.247 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10) and "Supernatural" (2.792 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T6). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Originals" delivered a 1.3 rating while "Supernatural" posted a 1.4 rating.

And finally, a repeat of "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" (3.961 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T8), "ABC News Special" (4.885 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T8) and a repeat of "The Goldbergs" (3.459 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12) on ABC (4.339 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #5) closed out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.9/4; "Late Show," 0.5/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.8/4.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.4/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.7/6 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.1/4 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.6/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 18 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (1/29/13):

CBS (16.709 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.9, #1) was the top draw on Tuesday with originals from "NCIS" (21.825 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.7, #1), "NCIS: Los Angeles" (17.189 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.1, #2) and "Vegas" (11.116 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.9, #4).

FOX (3.750 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.8, #2) then claimed the silver with fresh installments of "Raising Hope" (3.853 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T5), another "Raising Hope" (3.382 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T8), "New Girl" (4.658 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 2.5, #3) and "The Mindy Project" (3.106 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T5).

Next up was NBC (4.564 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T3) and its mix of "Betty White's Off Their Rockers" (5.176 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.4, #10) - its season low, another "Betty White's Off Their Rockers" (5.267 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T8), "Go On" (3.864 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T13) - a new series low, "The New Normal" (3.118 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #16) - likewise a new series low - and a special "Dateline NBC" (4.979 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T11).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.618 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T3) offered up week two of "The Taste" (4.790 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.6, #7) plus new episodes of "Happy Endings" (2.906 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T13) and another "Happy Endings" (2.843 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T11) as well as a rebroadcast of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (3.190 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T13).

And finally, originals from "Hart of Dixie" (1.326 million viewers, #18; adults 18-49: 0.5, #17) and "Emily Owens, MD" (1.360 million viewers, #17; adults 18-49: 0.4, #18) on The CW (1.343 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.5, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Dixie" delivered a 0.7 rating while "Emily" posted a 0.6 rating.
