Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Is the Week's #1 Biggest Gainer, Emerging as TV's #1 Show in Adults 18-49

Please note: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was in repeats this week, while Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Once Upon a Time and Revenge are currently on hiatus.

ABC's Modern Family stood as the week's #1 biggest gainer in TV playback among Adults 18-49, adding on +2.3 rating points to its first-reported Live + Same Day number. Modern Family picked up +5.0 million Total Viewers after 7 days of playback and Castle gained +4.5 million viewers to rank as the #2 and #3, respectively, biggest overall gainers of the week.

With a +2.3 rating point increase, Modern Family scored its highest playback build this season to grow to a 5.7 rating among Adults 18-49 - its highest L+7 rating since mid-November (since 11/13/13).

Building to a 2.9 rating in the final Live + 7 numbers, Shark Tank hit an all-time high among Adults 18-49.

In the final Live + 7 Day ratings, Modern Family emerged as the week's #1 TV show in Adults 18-49 (5.7 rating), moving ahead of both editions of Fox's American Idol to lead Idol-Weds by 19% (4.8) and Idol-Thurs by 30% (4.4).

Season-to-Date TV Playback (9/23/13-1/26/14):

Based on TV playback data for the 2013-14 season, ABC claims the most Top 10 playback gainers among Adults 18-49 of any broadcast network: Modern Family (+2.0 rating points), Grey's Anatomy (+1.8 rating points), Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (+1.7 rating points), Scandal (+1.5 rating points) and Castle (+1.3 rating points). ABC owns 4 of the 10 biggest overall gainers on the broadcast networks (tied with CBS): Castle (+4.4 million), Modern Family (+4.3 million), Grey's (+4.0 million) and Scandal (+3.9 million).

Nearly all of ABC's key returning series are seeing bigger percentage gains among Adults 18-49 from L+SD to L+7 this year than last: The Bachelor (+29% vs. +25%), Castle (+65% vs. +50%), Dancing with the Stars (+20% vs. +18%), Grey's Anatomy (+64% vs. +52%), Last Man Standing (+46% vs. +40%), Modern Family (+54% vs. +49%), Nashville (+75% vs. +55%), Once Upon a Time (+55% vs. +41%), Revenge (+63% vs. +48%), Scandal (+48% vs. +41%) and Shark Tank (+30% vs. +21%).

· Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is Tuesday's #1 scripted show this season with Adults 18-49 based on original telecasts, beating CBS' NCIS by 7% (4.4 rating vs. 4.1 rating). Based on first-run telecasts in the L+7 Adult 18-49 ratings, ABC claims the season's #1 scripted show on Tuesday (S.H.I.E.L.D. - 4.4 rating), the #1 show on Wednesday (Modern Family - 5.7), the #2 scripted show on Thursday (Grey's and Scandal tie - 4.6) and the #2 show on Friday (with Shark Tank within 1-tenth of a rating point of NBC's Grimm - 2.6 vs. 2.7).
