NATIONAL NIELSEN RATINGS FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 3 - MARCH 9, 2014
"COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY" PREMIERES OUT OF THIS WORLD, WITH TOTAL AUDIENCE OF 40 MILLION EXPECTED WORLDWIDE
Sunday night's epic series COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY premiered across 10 U.S. networks which yielded 8.5 million viewers nationally and is expected to grow to a total audience of 40 million viewers worldwide. FOX's week was also highlighted by strong performances from AMERICAN IDOL XIII, NEW GIRL, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and GLEE. For the week, FOX ranked No. 3 for the week among Adults 18-34 and No. 4 among Adults 18-49.
Overall, FOX had:
· 3 of the Top 20 programs among Adults 18-49: AMERICAN IDOL Wed. (No. 9), AMERICAN IDOL Thurs. (No. 20 tie) and FAMILY GUY (No. 20 tie).
· 6 of the Top 20 programs among Adults 18-34: FAMILY GUY (No. 8), COSMOS (No. 10), AMERICAN IDOL Wed. (No. 14), NEW GIRL (No. 17), AMERICAN IDOL Thurs. (No. 20 tie) and SIMPSONS (No. 20 tie).
· 4 of the Top 20 programs among Teens: AMERICAN IDOL Wed. (No. 5), FAMILY GUY (No. 7 tie), AMERICAN IDOL Thurs. (No. 7 tie) and SIMPSONS (No. 14).
· 2 of the Top 20 programs among Total Viewers: AMERICAN IDOL Wed. (No. 13) and AMERICAN IDOL Thurs. (No. 17).
Program and Nightly Highlights
Monday: FOX ranked No. 4 in Monday prime among Adults 18-49 (1.6/4). The season finale of ALMOST HUMAN delivered a 1.5/4 rating in Adults 18-49. THE FOLLOWING (1.6/4) was even week-to-week.
Tuesday: FOX ranked No. 4 (tie-ABC) in prime among Adults 18-49 (1.2/3). At 8p, GLEE posted a 1.0/3 in Adults 18-49. NEW GIRL (1.5/4) gained one-tenth week-to-week while BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (1.3/3) stayed even.
Wednesday: FOX (2.7/8) was the No. 1 broadcast prime net among Adults 18-49. With the Top 12 performing, AMERICAN IDOL-Wed (2.7/8) was even with last week (2.7/8).
Thursday: FOX (1.5/5) ranked as the No. 3 broadcast prime net among Adults 18-49. The Top 12 results show, AMERICAN IDOL-Thu posted a 2.2/7 in Adults 18-49. The final Thursday telecast before moving to Fridays, RAKE (0.8/2) was even week-to-week.
Friday: FOX ranked No. 5 in prime (0.7/2), even to last Friday. In its final telecast in the time period, an encore BONES posted a 0.7/3 in Adults 18-49. ENLISTED (0.7/2) was up one-tenth from last week's original (vs. 0.6/2). At 9:30p, RAISING HOPE posted a 0.5/2 in Adults 18-49.
Saturday: FOX ranked No. 4 (tie-ABC) in prime (0.4/1), even week-to-week with encores of ALMOST HUMAN (0.4/2) and THE FOLLOWING (0.3/1).
Sunday: FOX was the No. 2 broadcast prime net among Adults 18-49 with animated comedies from 7-9p and the launch of COSMOS (2.1/5). Ranking No. 2 in the 9pm hour behind ABC's premiere of Resurrection (3.8/10), the debut of COSMOS (2.1/5) was up +11% versus the prior season 9-10p average excluding sports (vs. 1.9/5). The COSMOS premiere across the 10 U.S. networks (FOX, NAT GEO, NAT GEO WILD, NAT GEO MUNDO, FX, FXX, FXMC, FS1, FS2, FOX LIFE) yields an average audience total among Persons 2+ of 8.5 million. Overall the 7-9p comedies block (1.5/5) posted increases versus last week's average in the time period which included repeats (+67%, 0.9/2), from 7-9p: BOB'S BURGERS tpp (0.9/4), THE SIMPSONS special (1.2/4), THE SIMPSONS (1.6/5) and FAMILY GUY tpp (2.2/6).
