Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Holds Onto Top Spot with Gains

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (5/7/14):

CBS (10.059 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.2, #1) held onto the top spot on Wednesday with its usual mix of "Survivor: Cagayan" (9.824 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.4, #2), "Criminal Minds" (10.434 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #3) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (9.919 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #4).

FOX (7.842 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then snagged the silver with its two-hour "American Idol" (7.842 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #5).

Next up was ABC (5.314 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #3) with originals from "The Middle" (6.315 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.5, #6), "Suburgatory" (4.678 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T10), "Modern Family" (8.097 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1), "Mixology" (3.736 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.3, #9) and "Nashville" (4.529 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T10).

Meanwhile, NBC (4.829 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4) served up fresh installments of "Revolution" (3.818 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.1, #12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (5.293 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T7) and "Chicago PD" (5.377 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T7).

And finally, new episodes of "Arrow" (2.245 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.7, #13) and "The 100" (1.691 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.6, #14) on The CW (1.968 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Arrow" delivered a 0.6 rating while "100" posted a 0.4 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.6/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.4/5 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.2/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

FOX (10.827 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1) was still the network to beat on Wednesday with a new two-hour "American Idol" (10.827 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #2). In the 8:00/7:00c hour, "The Voice" (2.7) however edged out "Idol" (2.5) in adults 18-49.

CBS (9.662 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.4, #2) then claimed the silver with the penultimate "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites" (9.330 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.5, #T4) followed by new episodes of "Criminal Minds" (9.923 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.5, #T4) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (9.733 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.2, #6).

Next up was NBC (7.529 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3) with a special "The Voice" (8.733 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.7, #3) alongside originals from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.965 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.9, #8) and "Chicago Fire" (6.890 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T9).
