ABC's "Rising Star" Holds Steady Week to Week in Adults 18-49

During the 4th of July holiday week (w/o 6/30/14), ABC grew from the same week last year by double digits in Total Viewers (+12% - 3.7 million vs. 3.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 0.9/3 vs. 0.8/3), qualifying as the only net up with young adults. In fact, ABC was up year to year in Total Viewers for the 2nd week in a row and the 4th time in 5 weeks. The Net delivered 4 of the Top 20 broadcast programs in Adults 18-49: "The Bachelorette" - No. 8, "Rising Star" - No. 17, while "Mistresses" and "Wipeout" tied at No. 19. In addition, ABC's "The Bachelorette" finished among the week's Top 10 most-watched TV shows overall.
Monday
With "The Bachelorette" and "Mistresses," ABC was the 2nd-most-watched TV network overall on Monday (5.7 million) to CBS with the "Under the Dome" premiere, while once again winning the night among Women 18-49.
· ABC was up week to week (5.3 million and 1.3/4, respectively, on 6/23/14) in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).
"The Bachelorette" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 6.5 million and 1.6/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:01 p.m., "The Bachelorette" continued to rank No. 1 in its 2-hour time period among Total Viewers (6.5 million) and key Women (W18-49/W25-54), leading its slot with Total Viewers for its 5th consecutive telecast on the night.
· "The Bachelorette" was also the No. 1 most-social broadcast series on Monday night with 90,215 tweets, jumping 30% from the prior week and more than tripling runner-up CBS' "Under the Dome" premiere (+205% - 29,617 tweets).
· "The Bachelorette" was up week to week in both Total Viewers (+7%) and in Adults 18-49 (+7%) - 6.1 million and 1.5/5, respectively, on 6/23/14.
"Mistresses" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 4.1 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour against the highly-promoted season premiere of CBS' "Under the Dome," ABC's "Mistresses" was up week to week (3.6 million and 1.0/3, respectively, on 6/23/14) in Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%) to deliver best-since-premiere numbers on both counts - since 6/2/14. The ABC drama was up year to year in Total Viewers (+14%) and even in Adults 18-49 (3.6 million and 1.1/3 on 7/1/13).
Thursday
ABC finished as the most-watched TV network on Thursday night (4.6 million - tied w/CBS).
Please Note: On the evening leading into the 4th of July holiday weekend, overall Adult 18-49 TV usage levels dropped -15% from the prior Thursday (24.4% vs. 28.6%).
"Rookie Blue" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 5.2 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
During the 9 o'clock hour, ABC's "Rookie Blue" ranked as the No. 1 program in Total Viewers (5.2 million), beating CBS' "Big Brother 16" by 8% (4.8 million) and more than doubling the audience of its drama competition on Fox (+108% - 2.5 million for "Gang Related"). The ABC drama grew its overall audience week to week (+2%).
"NY Med" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 4.7 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC's "NY Med" was the most-watched TV show in its hour for the 2nd week in a row (4.7 million).
Friday
"Shark Tank-SP-R" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 2.9 million and 0.6/3 in AD18-49):
In the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's encore "Shark Tank" finished second in Total Viewers (2.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (0.6/3), beating its repeat unscripted competition on CBS ("Undercover Boss" = 2.5 million and 0.4/2) and on Fox ("Masterchef" = 1.3 million and 0.4/2).
"20/20-SP" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.8 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "20/20" was the No. 1 program for the 3rd consecutive week among Adults 25-54 (1.1/5-tie).
Sunday
Featuring a repeat "Funniest Home Videos," into "Wipeout" and "Rising Star," ABC (1.1/4) took first place on Sunday in Adults 18-49 to lead the pack for the 2nd week in a row, beating CBS by 10% (1.0/4), Fox by 22% (0.9/3) and NBC by 57% (0.7/2).
Please Note: On the final night of the extended 4th of July holiday weekend, overall Adult 18-49 TV usage levels declined -5% from the prior Sunday (28.9% vs. 30.3%).
"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.7 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-9:00 p.m. against CBS' "Big Brother," ABC's "Wipeout" earned second place in its slot and boosted its time period year to year in Total Viewers (+28% - 3.7 million vs. 2.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+22% - 1.1/4 vs. 0.9/3). In addition, the show was up week to week with Adults 18-34 (+14%) and Men 18-34 (+33%), hitting season highs on both measures.
"Rising Star" (9:00-11:00 p.m. - 4.5 million and 1.2/4 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC's "Rising Star" (1.2/4) won its 2-hour time slot in Adults 18-49, outdelivering its original broadcast competition for the 2nd consecutive week with a dominant 71% lead over both NBC's "Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour" concert special (0.7/2) and CBS' dramas ("Reckless"/"Unforgettable" = 0.7/2). "Rising Star" finished as the No. 2 broadcast show on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (tie), behind only CBS' "Big Brother." The new ABC unscripted series built on its lead-in with viewers (+22%) and young adults (+9%).
· Despite the lower holiday TV usage levels, "Rising Star" held steady week to week in Adults 18-49.
· "Rising Star" continued to improve its 2-hour time period year to year for ABC, building over the same night last year by 50% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 3.0 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 0.8/2).
