NBC Wins Saturday Among the Big 4 With the #1 Show of the Night on Those Nets, 'Dateline Saturday Night Mystery,' Which Matches NBC's Top Non-Sports 18-49 Rating in the Slot in 22 Months

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 15, 2014 - NBC has tied for #1 for the primetime week of July 7-13 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, despite running no original episodes of the summer's top-rated series, "America's Got Talent," last week.

The tie for #1 extends NBC's streak of finishing #1 or tied for #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox for all eight weeks since the close of the traditional season in May, excluding ABC during its two weeks covering the NBA Finals. According to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, NBC averaged a 1.1 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall for the week.

Finishing among the week's top 30 primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox were NBC's "America's Got Talent" encore on Tuesday (tied for #6), Monday's "American Ninja Warrior" (tied for #6), a Wednesday "Talent" encore (tied for #11), Tuesday's "The Night Shift" (tied for #17) and Friday's "Dateline NBC" (tied for #26).

"American Ninja Warrior" tied for #1 for the week on the Big 4 in men 18-49 and tied for #2 among men 18-34 and teens 12-17.

The five regular original telecasts of "Talent" so far this summer have generated the top five 18-49 and total-viewer results among all entertainment broadcasts on the Big 4 networks since the end of the May sweep.

Through 42 weeks of the 2013-14 broadcast year, NBC ranks #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, adults 18-34 (tied with Fox), men 18-49 (tied with Fox), men 25-54 and all key adult-female demos. It's the first time NBC has ranked #1 in adults 18-49 at this point in the season in 10 years (since the 2003-04 season).

NBC's 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 is the network's top average at this point in the season in four years (since a 2.5 in 2009-10).

Versus one year ago, NBC is up +14% for the broadcast year to date in adults 18-49 (2.5 vs. 2.2), while the other Big 4 networks are all down year to year.

In total viewers, NBC ranks #2 for the broadcast year with an average of 8.6 million viewers, which is its biggest overall audience 42 weeks into the season in eight years (since 2005-06, 9.2 million). Versus one year ago, NBC is up +27% season to date in total viewers (8.6 million vs. 6.8 million). It's the first time NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers at this point in the season in 10 years.

Primetime averages for the week of July 7-13 in adults 18-49 are: CBS, 1.1/4; NBC, 1.1/4; ABC, 1.0/4; Fox, 0.9/3; and CW, 0.3/1. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 5.6 million; NBC, 4.6 million; ABC, 4.2 million; Fox, 2.7 million; and CW, 0.7 million.

Season-to-date averages are: NBC, 2.5/8; Fox, 2.2/7; CBS, 2.1/7; ABC, 2.0/6; and CW, 0.7/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 9.8 million; NBC, 8.6 million; ABC, 7.3 million; Fox, 6.7 million; and CW, 1.8 million.

NBC highlights for the week of July 7-13:

Monday: An encore telecast of "Last Comic Standing" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew by +7% versus its previous encore in this slot on June 23 in total viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.5 million).

"American Ninja Warrior" (1.7/5 in adults 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) topped "Under the Dome" to win "Ninja's" second hour from 10-11 p.m. among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 (with a 1.8 rating that hour for "Ninja" vs. a 1.7 for "Dome" and a 0.9 for ABC's "Mistresses"). "Ninja" also won the two-hour 9-11 p.m. time period among the Big 4 in adults 18-49 and other key demos. With its first original telecast since June 23, "American Ninja Warrior" equaled its top 18-49 rating since June 2 (1.9) and its biggest overall audience since that same date.

Tuesday: Despite airing an encore "America's Got Talent," NBC won Tuesday night in 18-49 and total viewers among the Big 4 with the #1 and #2 shows of the night in 18-49, "America's Got Talent" and "The Night Shift." NBC led six of six half-hours among the Big 4 in 18-49 and total viewers and won the night among those nets in every key measure.

An encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (1.7/6 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) ranked #1 in the time period among the Big 4 in every key measure and was the #1 telecast of the night on the Big 4 in every key demographic.

"The Night Shift" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) grew +8% in 18-49 and 7% in total viewers versus the last time it aired with an encore lead-in (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.921 million viewers overall on June 24). "The Night Shift" ranked #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, total viewers and other key measures. L+7 Time-Shifting: "The Night Shift" has been growing by an average of +38% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.95 rating from a 1.41) going from next-day "live plus same day" ratings to "live plus seven day" figures, and increasing by 2.0 million persons in total viewers (8.7 million vs. 6.7 million).

Wednesday: An encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks for its second hour from 9-10 p.m. with CBS's premiere of "Extant." The "Talent" rebroadcast was up versus the prior week by +7% in 18-49 rating (1.5 vs. 1.4) and by +15% versus two weeks earlier (1.5 vs. 1.3).

"Taxi Brooklyn" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) retained 90% of its 1.0 rating of the prior week and 90% of its premiere 1.0 rating of two weeks earlier. In the time period, "Taxi Brooklyn" tied for #1 in adults 18-34 among ABC, CBS and NBC and tied for #2 in adults 18-49.

Thursday: "Hollywood Game Night" (0.9/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 8-9:01 p.m. ET) grew from its first half-hour to its second by +11% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.0 rating from a 0.9), +17% in adults 25-54 (1.4 vs. 1.2) and +21% in women 25-54 (1.7 vs. 1.4). "Hollywood Game Night" held steady or grew from half-hour to half-hour in every key ratings measure.

The debut of "Welcome to Sweden" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall from 9:01-9:30 p.m. ET) grew +50% versus the prior week's "Undateable" rating in the slot (0.9 vs. 0.6) and +70% in total viewers (3.508 million vs. 2.069 million). In the time period, "Welcome to Sweden" tied for #2 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and ranked #2 outright among those nets in adults, men and women 18-34. The debuting comedy retained 100% of its 18-49 lead-in from "Hollywood Game Night," while equaling NBC's top 18-49 rating in the slot since June 5 and delivering NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period since May 29.

"Welcome to Sweden" is the second-highest rated summer comedy debut among seven on the Big 4 networks in the last five years (since ABC's "The Goode Family" in 2009), behind only "Undateable" over that span) in 18-49 and total viewers and is NBC's second-highest rated summer comedy debut in 10 years (since "Come to Papa" in 2004), behind only "Undateable" over that span) in 18-49 and total viewers. "Welcome to Sweden" out-rated every episode of all three of last summer's original comedies on the Big 4 networks (NBC's "Save Me" and Fox's "Anger Management" and "The Goodwin Games") in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

"Working the Engels" (0.7/2 in18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 9:30-10 p.m. ET) grew +37% week to week in total viewers versus the prior week's "Undateable" audience in the slot (2.731 million vs. 1.993 million). "Working the Engels" tied for #2 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults, men and women 18-34.

"Last Comic Standing" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) ranks #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the time period in adults 18-49. "Last Comic" finished #1 in the hour for an eighth straight telecast versus all competition on those nets excluding the NBA Finals. Despite the 10 p.m. hour, "Last Comic" grew half-hour to half-hour by +11% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.1 from a.1.0) and by 7% in total viewers (3.4 million vs. 3.2 million).

Friday: "Dateline NBC" (1.1/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) grew +10% versus its prior Friday telecast of three earlier (1.0 on June 20). "Dateline" was #1 in the time period among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key demographics.

"Crossbones" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) grew 0.1 of a point or +25% versus its prior telecast in adults 18-49 (with a 0.5 vs. 0.4 on June 27) and was up +18% in total viewers (2.6 million vs. 2.2 million). L+7 Time-Shifting: "Crossbones" has been increasing by an average of +40% in adults 18-49 (to a 1.05 rating from a 0.75) going from L+SD ratings to L+7 results, and increasing by more than 1.5 million persons in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 3.4 million).

Saturday: NBC ranked #1 in primetime Saturday night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers with the #1 primetime show of the night on those nets in all three categories, "Dateline Saturday Night Mystery"(0.9/4 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET), which ranked #1 in its two-hour time period on those nets in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures. "Dateline Saturday Night Mystery" matched its series-high adult 18-49 rating and equaled NBC's top 18-49 result in the slot, excluding sports, in 22 months (since Sept. 15, 2012).

A rebroadcast of "The Blacklist" (0.4/2 in 18-49, 2.9 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET.) grew versus the prior week's encore in the slot by +14% in total viewers (2.9 million vs. 2.5 million) to top the show's prior 10 Saturday rebroadcasts and earn its second biggest overall audience on a Saturday to date behind only a September 28, 2013 rebroadcast of the show's premiere.

Sunday: An encore telecast of "American Ninja Warrior" (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m. ET) built consistently through its four half-hours, with this track in adults 18-49: 0.4, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8. The "Ninja" rebroadcast grew from its first half-hour to its fourth by +100% in adults 18-49 (to a 0.8 rating from a 0.4) and by +65% or more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers (2.9 million vs. 1.8 million).

A 9-10 p.m. ET "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" rebroadcast averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.2 million viewers overall.

A 10-11 p.m. ET "Law & Order: SVU" encore (0.8/2 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall) tied for #1 in the hour in adults 18-49 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49. The 10 p.m. "SVU" rebroadcast built on its lead-in from a 9 p.m. encore by +33% in 18-49 and +32% in total viewers.
