TNT's summer ratings dominance continued last week with its fourth consecutive win as basic cable's most-watched network in primetime. TNT's ongoing success has been fueled by its slate of hit summer dramas, including Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles and The Last Ship, which ranked as basic cable's Top 3 scripted programs for the week among total viewers and which continue to hold position as basic cable's Top 3 scripted series for the summer-to-date. Sunday night's episode of The Last Ship ranked as basic cable's #1 scripted original for the week among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, solidifying its position as the summer's #1 scripted original on basic cable with key demos. The Last Ship, Major Crimes and Rizzoli & Isles also ranked basic cable's Top 3 scripted programs for the week among adults 25-54.
For the summer-to-date, The Last Ship and Rizzoli & Isles are joined by the epic sci-fi Falling Skies in giving TNT three of basic cable's Top 5 scripted originals with adults 18-49. TNT also has all four of the Top 4 scripted originals with adults 25-54 and six of the Top 10 with total viewers for the summer-to-date.
In addition to their competitive success, TNT's powerhouse dramas are attracting huge audiences in time-shifted viewing. According to the latest data, Rizzoli & Isles drew 8.1 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its July 1 episode, while Major Crimes booked 7.1 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its June 30 episode, and The Last Ship grabbed 6.5 million viewers in Live + 7 for its July 6 episode. TNT's Perception garnered its biggest audience so far this season, with 5.1 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for the July 1 episdode (+17% vs. the prior week). In addition, Falling Skies grabbed 4.8 million viewers for its July 6 episode, and Murder in the First brought in 4.2 million viewers with its June 30 episode.
TNT's dramas are also performing exceptionally well in Live + 3. Last Monday's episode of Major Crimes scored the show's best Live + 3 deliveries so far this season, with 7 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery (+4% vs. the prior week) and +3% growth among key demos. Also in Live + 3, the July 15 episode of Rizzoli & Isles has climbed to more than 7.1 million viewers, while the July 13 episode of The Last Ship has drawn 6.4 million viewers, a +5% boost over the prior week. In addition, the July 13 episode of Falling Skies has drawn 4.4 million viewers in Live + 3, while the July 14 episode of Murder in the First is up to 4.1 million viewers, and the July 15 episode of Perception has brought in 4 million viewers.
Collectively, this year's crop of summer originals are bringing in many more viewers to TNT than last summer. For the summer-to-date, the network's original series are averaging 5.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery, a +38% increase over the same time last year. Demo deliveries have grown by double-digit percentages, with this summer's TNT originals bringing in +20% more adults 25-54 and +13% more adults 18-49 than last summer.
Adult Swim
Across the third week of July 2014, Adult Swim once again ranked #1 among basic cable networks for Primetime delivery of adults 18-34. Adult Swim also ranked #1 for Total Day delivery of targeted adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 on basic cable.
Among Adult Swim original programming, the season finale of Loiter Squad (Thursday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all targeted adults/men 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49. Additionally, new episodes of Robot Chicken (Sunday, 11:30 p.m.) and Superjail (11:45 p.m.) both ranked #1 in their respective time periods among all adults/men 18-24 & 18-34. Robot Chicken also grew delivery of adults 18-34 & 18-49 and all targeted male demos vs. the same time period last year.
On Saturday night during the TOONAMI block (11:30 p.m.-3:30 a.m.), Bleach (12 a.m.) and Blue Exorcist (2 a.m.) both ranked #1 in their respective time periods among men 18-24. Black Lagoon (2:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-24 and all targeted male demos. Space Dandy (12:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among men 18-24/18-34, while One Piece (1:30 a.m.) ranked #1 among adults/men 18-24.
Overall for the week, Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken, Superjail, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Cleveland Show - accounted for 35 of the top 50 telecasts of the week among adults 18-34 on basic cable, and 40 of the top 50 telecasts among men 18-34, both more than any other network.
Cartoon Network
For the third week of July 2014, Cartoon Network once again ranked as television's #1 network for in Total Day delivery of boys 6-11 & 9-14, as well as #1 for Early Prime (6-8 p.m.) delivery of boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14. Compared to the same time period last year, Total Day average delivery also grew among all key kid demos - kids 2-11 rose by 8%, kids 6-11 by 11% and kids 9-14 by 3%. Early Prime delivery increased as well among kids 9-14 by 7%.
A programming powerhouse on Thursday night, Cartoon Network scored as the #1 network among boys 6-11 & 9-14 in Early Prime (6-8 p.m.), with average delivery growing by considerable double-digits across all demos vs. the 2013 time period - kids 2-11 by 42%, kids 6-11 by 56%, and kids 9-14 by 52%. Among Cartoon Network's original animated programming, The Amazing World of Gumball (6:30 p.m.) ranked as the #1 telecast of the week among boys 9-14, and #1 in its time period among all targeted boy demos. Clarence (6:45 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among boys 2-11 & 6-11, while Adventure Time (7 p.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among boys 9-14. All Thursday Night new episode premieres grew kids & boy deliveries by strong double-digits, ranging from 32% to 99%.
On other nights of the week, Cartoon Network also claimed the #1 ranking (6-8 p.m.) among all TV networks for delivery of targeted boys on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday Night. Tuesday night average deliveries increased among all kids/boys 9-14. Wednesday night's performance also increased deliveries of kids 6-11 & 9-14 and boys 2-11 & 9-14. Finally, Friday night increased deliveries of all targeted kids/boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, ranging between 12% and 49%.
Saturday Morning programming (7-11 a.m.) earned year-over-year delivery gains among all kid demos and boys 2-11/6-11, ranging between 12% and 56%. A new episode premiere of Pok�mon the Series XY (8 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all targeted boys, and grew average deliveries of all targeted demos by double and triple-digits - between 34% and 168%.
TBS
TBS ranked as basic cable's #1 network for the week in primetime delivery of adults 18-49, maintaining its position as basic cable's top network with adults 18-49 for the year-to-date.
Among TBS's successes for the week, Tuesday night's episode of Sullivan & Son drew 1.9 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, including 873,000 million adults 18-49 and 361,000 adults 18-34. In addition, The Big Bang Theory on TBS had another winning week as it claimed all of basic cable's Top 15 off-net sitcom telecasts among total viewers and adults 18-49.
NBA TV
NBA TV's comprehensive coverage of Samsung NBA Summer League 2014 from Las Vegas is averaging 103,000 household impressions and 116,000 total viewers through Sunday, up 41% and 30% respectively to date over last year. The network is seeing double digit increases across all key demos, including +38% among men 18-34. This has been NBA TV's most-watched Summer League ever, including 4 of the top 10 most viewed Summer League games ever among total viewers. Additionally, NBA TV's The Starters (for the week 7/14-7/20) delivered its most watched week of premieres to date among households. Since the beginning of Samsung NBA Summer League 2014 from Las Vegas, NBA TV's prime average is up 31% versus the same period a year ago.
