Turner Broadcasting Portfolio Lands Four of Basic Cable's Top 10 Networks for the Week Among Adults 18-49
Turner spins the numbers for the week of October 6-12.

Turner Broadcasting's TBS and Adult Swim scored strong showings in key demos last week, ranking among basic cable's Top 3 entertainment networks with adults 18-34 and among the Top 5 entertainment networks with adults 18-49. The two networks were also in the Top 10 with total viewers in primetime.

In total day, the Turner Broadcasting portfolio landed four of basic cable's Top 10 networks for the week among adults 18-49, with Adult Swim in first place and TBS, Cartoon Network and TNT in the mix. Adult Swim also led the pack as Turner networks claimed three of the Top 10 spots with adults 18-34 in total day.

Adult Swim

Across the second week of October 2014, Adult Swim again ranked #1 among all basic cable networks for Total Day delivery of adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24 & 18-34.

Among the network's original programming, comedy series Black Jesus (Thursday, 11 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults & men 18-24. Similarly, original series Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories (Thursday, 12:15 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-34. Among animated original programming, Mr. Pickles (Sunday, 11:30p) grew delivery of all targeted adults & male demos, ranging between 2% and 53%. A new episode premiere of Squidbillies (11:45 p.m.) also grew delivery of adults 18-34 & 18-49 and all targeted men.

Headlining Adult Swim's TOONAMI block on Saturday nights, Bleach (12 a.m.), Naruto: Shippuden (12:30 a.m.), One Piece (1 a.m.), and Gurren Lagann (1:30 a.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective time periods among adults and men 18-24, increasing delivery by mostly double-digits across all targeted male demos vs. last year's same time periods.

Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken, Mr. Pickles, Rick and Morty and Squidbillies - accounted for 23 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the week among adults 18-34, and 20 of the top 50 with men 18-34, both more than any other network.

TBS

With strong deliveries for its coverage of the Major League Baseball Postseason, TBS strengthened its lead as basic cable's #1 network with adults 18-49 in primetime for the year-to-date.

TBS's coverage of the first two games in Major League Baseball's American League Championship Series between Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles ranked among basic cable's Top 10 programs for the week among total viewers and adults 25-54. Friday night's Game 1 was also a Top 10 performer with adults 18-34 and adults 18-49.

TBS' ALCS coverage is averaging 5.1 million viewers through two games, a +9% increase over the network's comparable LCS game telecasts last year (Dodgers/Cardinals, 4.7 million viewers). This year's corresponding 3.1 U.S. household rating is up 3% over a 3.0 U.S. HH rating to-date last year. Additionally, the 2014 ALCS is driving growth vs. 2013 across all key demos, including a +9% increase among adults 18-49.

TBS' exclusive coverage of the American League Championship Series Game 2 (Saturday, Oct. 11) between the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles delivered an average of 4.3 million total viewers, up 26% over the network's comparable LCS telecast last year (Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis - 3.4 million total viewers). This year's corresponding 2.6 U.S. household rating is up 18% over a 2.2 U.S. HH rating in 2013. The ALCS Game 2 propelled TBS to deliver the highest-rated programming across all of cable television in its telecast window. Additionally, the game garnered significant growth across all key demos over last year's comparable game, including a +26% increase among adults 18-49.

TBS's telecasts of The Big Bang Theory accounted for 19 of basic cable's Top 20 sitcom telecasts for the week among total viewers and adults 18-49.

Cartoon Network

For the second week in a row and the first time since June 2012, Cartoon Network ranked #2 among all television networks for Total Day delivery of kids 6-11.

Cartoon Network's on-air programming claimed 45 of basic cable's Top 50 telecasts this week among boys 6-11.

Across the second week of October 2014, Cartoon Network ranked as basic cable's #1 network for Early Prime (6-8 p.m.) delivery of kids 2-11 & 6-11 and all targeted boys. The Early Prime performance out-delivered last year's showing by strong double digits: kids 2-11 grew by 20%, kids 6-11 by 19% and kids 9-14 by 22%. Cartoon Network also ranked #1 this week in Total Day delivery among all targeted boys, again strongly out-pacing last year's performance among kids 2-11 by 32%, kids 6-11 by 40% and kids 9-14 by 28%.

A juggernaut on Thursday nights, Cartoon Network once again was the #1 television destination among all kids/boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 on Thursday Night (6-8 p.m.), earning double and triple-digit increases across these same demos, ranging from 64% to 120%. The Amazing World of Gumball (7 p.m.) ranked as the #1 telecast of the week among boys 6-11 on all TV, and among boys 2-11 on basic cable. The original animated series scored as the #1 telecast of the day among all kids/boys 2-11 & 6-11. All Thursday Night premieres ranked #1 in their respective time periods among all targeted kids and boys, increasing delivery by double and triple-digits across these same demos, ranging from 42% to 206%.

The Season 6 premiere of Cartoon Network's Emmy-winning original series Regular Show (Thursday, 7:30 p.m.) ranked as television's #1 telecast of the day among boys 9-14, and #1 in its time period among all targeted kids/boys 2-11, 6-11, & 9-14. Compared to its Season 5 premiere (Sept. 2, 2013), Regular Show out-delivered kids and boys demos by mostly double digits, ranging from 8% to 33%. Similarly, compared to the same time period last year, Regular Show grew delivery of all targeted kids and boy demos by double and triple-digits, ranging between 45% and 117%.

Saturday Morning programming (7-11 a.m.) continued to earn double and triple-digit delivery gains vs. last year across all targeted demos, ranging between 39% and 113%.

TNT

TNT's Legends closed out its first season Wednesday night with a preliminary delivery of 1.7 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery. Combined with encores, VOD and digital on-demand, the two-episode season finale has so far reached 3.1 million viewers.

TNT's On the Menu drew 1.5 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery for Friday night's new episode and weekend encores. With VOD and digital on-demand included, the episode has so far reached 2.5 million viewers.

NBA TV

NBA TV's Open Court season premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 7 - "NBA 50 Greatest and the Next 10" - averaged 146,000 total viewers, up +128% over the comparable first episode last year. Last week's episode is up +38% in total viewers compared with the show's all-time average viewership, +76% among men 18-49 and +73% in adults 18-49. Additionally, the network's prime delivery averages are up 12% in total viewers and +7% in households, compared to 2013 to-date, with gains across all key demos, including +14% among men 18-34 and +20% among men 18-49.
