"48 HOURS: THE TWO FACES OF TODD WINKLER" IS SATURDAY'S #1 BROADCAST AT 10:00 PM WITH VIEWERS

48 HOURS: "The Two Faces of Todd Winkler" was Saturday's #1 broadcast at 10:00 PM with viewers, according to Nielsen's live plus same day ratings for Dec. 13, 2014.

48 HOURS averaged 4.88 million viewers and a 1.4/04 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news. Compared to the last first-run episode (Nov. 29), 48 HOURS was up +17% in adults 25-54 (from 1.2/03), +25% in adults 18-49 (1.0/04 from 0.8/03) and added +130,000 viewers (from 4.75m, +3%).

Saturday's broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS' investigation into the death of Rachel Winkler, a married mother of three, found stabbed in her home after her husband, Todd Winkler, called a friend to say she was dead.

Todd Winkler told police he and Rachel were fighting and that she attacked him with a pair of scissors. The investigation into Rachel Winkler's death revealed a fractured marriage, Rachel's affair with a former Marine, and Todd Winkler's shocking past that prosecutors believe held clues to what happened to Rachel.

The question of Todd Winkler's mental health became a major issue during the trial and even shocked the most cynical courtroom observers, when he screamed, "You are not samurai," while interrupting El Dorado County prosecutor Lisette Suder's opening statement. "You do not speak truth! You only want to destroy! You have no Bushido!"

Moreover, prosecutors were surprised to learn that Winkler's previous wife, Catherine Winkler, died in a fiery car crash. Though ruled an accident, prosecutors believed there was more to Todd Winkler having two dead wives than just bad luck. Winkler eventually was convicted of killing his wife.

48 HOURS: "The Two Faces of Todd Winkler" is produced by Clare Friedland, Anthony Venditti, Gail Abbott Zimmerman and Josh Gelman. Sue McHugh and Michelle Feuer are the field producers. Bruce Spiegel, Mike Vele, Alan Miller and Marlon Disla are the editors. Judy Tygard is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
