"Decades of Deceit" featured Troy Roberts and 48 HOURS look at the case of a young mother who was murdered more than two decades ago and the Facebook-savvy police officer who took on the investigation, even though he had never worked a homicide case. Amy Weidner was beaten, sexually assaulted and killed in the bedroom of her Indianapolis home while she and her two-year-old daughter were home alone on Nov. 13, 1989. Police believed Amy was killed by an acquaintance and chased down many leads, none of which led to an arrest. The case went cold. Then in 2011, detectives in the cold case unit turned to a colleague who was savvy with Facebook for help in printing some pictures. In the process, Detective Sgt. William Carter, a nuisance abatement officer, became obsessed with helping the family solve the crime.
"Love, Hate & Obsession" featured Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS investigation into the murder of one-time millionaire Lanny Horwitz, who was shot nine times and left in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his Jupiter, Fla., home. Horwitz's ex-wife, Donna, who was supposedly reconciling with him at the time, was in the connected bedroom. Radley, his son, a former gun dealer, was also in the home. Donna Horwitz was eventually charged with murder, but at trial, her defense attorney argued Radley had the motive to kill his father. Then, just when it seemed the case was closed, a courtroom twist changed everything.
