IN A MAJOR BREAKING NEWS WEEK, MORE PEOPLE WATCHED CBS NEWS THAN NEWS ON ANY OTHER BROADCAST NETWORK

In a period filled with major breaking news and key newsmaker interviews, more people watched CBS News than news on any other broadcast network, according to Nielsen most current ratings.

Combined, the CBS News' major broadcasts were watched all or in part by an estimated 53.8 million people, according to most current ratings for the week ending Dec. 6. Season-to-date, more than 135 million people have watched all or part of a CBS News broadcast - more than any other broadcast network - according to Nielsen.

The depth of CBS News' strength runs across the lineup, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Dec. 6. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and CBS THIS MORNING posting big year-to-year gains, while FACE THE NATION and CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD were the #1 Sunday morning public affairs program and the #1 Sunday morning news program respectively. 48 HOURS was Saturday's #1 non-sports broadcast. 60 MINUTES remained the country's #1 news program.

CBS News' original reporting last week featured Norah O'Donnell's interview with President Barack Obama on the day of the San Bernardino, Calif. shootings; John Dickerson's interviews with Republican candidates Donald Trump and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; Charlie Rose's interview with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton; Erin Moriarty's report on the investigation into masterpieces stolen from the Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston; Maureen Maher's report on a Charleston mother who abducted her daughter and lived secretly abroad for two decades; Lesley Stahl's investigation into college students being misled into being police informants; and team coverage of the San Bernardino shooting from around the country.

The year-ago comparison represents a five-day average. Season-to-date, CBS EVENING NEWS also added the most viewers among the network evening news broadcasts (+6%, 7.34m from 6.94m) and is even in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) compared to last season.
