Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX Tops Demos with "American Idol"

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/27/16):

FOX (6.948 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) was the demo champ on Wednesday with a new "American Idol" (9.593 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.5, #1) and the relocated "Hell's Kitchen" (4.304 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5).

CBS (7.978 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) then was the number two draw with its mix of "2 Broke Girls" (6.857 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T3), "Mike & Molly" (7.095 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T3), "Criminal Minds" (9.430 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #2) and "Code Black" (7.528 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7).

Next up was ABC (4.321 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #3) and repeats of "The Middle" (5.175 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7), "The Goldbergs" (4.231 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T9), "Modern Family" (5.059 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5), "Black-ish" (4.232 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T9) and a new "American Crime" (3.614 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T13).

Meanwhile, NBC (4.859 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4) offered up second runs from "The Mysteries of Laura" (5.265 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #15), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.559 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.0, #12) and "Chicago PD" (4.754 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T13).

And finally, The CW (2.310 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4) closed out the evening with new episodes of "Arrow" (2.746 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 1.1, #11) and "Supernatural" (1.875 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.7, #16).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.9/5; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.3/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.0/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (1/28/15):

FOX (11.155 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.6, #1) was still the network to beat on Wednesday thanks to new episodes of "American Idol" (10.998 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.9, #2) and "Empire" (11.311 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.3, #1).

CBS (9.371 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then claimed the silver with originals from "The Mentalist" (9.051 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T6), "Criminal Minds" (10.639 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3) and "Stalker" (8.423 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.6, #4).

Next up was ABC (4.307 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #3) and its repeat lineup of "The Middle" (5.584 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T6), "The Goldbergs" (4.676 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T6), "Modern Family" (5.308 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.5, #5), "Black-ish" (3.872 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.2, #9), another "Black-ish" (3.427 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T10) and yet another "Black-ish" (2.973 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.9, #12).

Meanwhile, The CW (2.239 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) offered up originals from "Arrow" (2.866 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T10) and "The 100" (1.611 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T15). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the former delivered a 0.8 rating while the latter posted a 0.4 rating.

And finally, repeats of "The Mysteries of Laura" (4.135 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (3.605 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13) and "Chicago PD" (4.063 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T15) on NBC (3.934 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #5) closed out the evening.
