Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Wins Race in Viewers, Demos

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/23/16):

CBS (9.187 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) was the network to beat on Wednesday with new episodes of "Survivor: Kaoh Rong" (9.243 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #3), "Criminal Minds" (10.713 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.1, #2) and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" (7.605 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T7).

The silver then went to ABC (5.970 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) and its lineup of "The Middle" (7.150 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #6), "The Goldbergs" (6.636 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T4), "Modern Family" (7.656 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1), "Black-ish" (6.073 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T4) and "Nashville" (4.154 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T12).

Next up was NBC (5.839 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #3) and its trio of "Heartbeat" (5.288 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.055 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T7) and "Chicago PD" (6.175 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.3, #9).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.640 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4) offered up a new "Rosewood" (3.695 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #11) and the Friday-bound "Hell's Kitchen" (3.586 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.2, #10).

And finally, the return of "Arrow" (2.141 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #14) and "Supernatural" (1.649 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.6, #15) on The CW (1.895 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #5) closed out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/2.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.0/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (3/25/15):

CBS (9.150 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) pulled into the top spot on Wednesday with its trio of "Survivor: Worlds Apart" (9.519 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2), "Criminal Minds" (9.875 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.0, #T4) and "CSI: Cyber" (8.058 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.4, #9).

FOX (8.344 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2) then had to settle for second place with its "Empire"-less night of a two-hour "American Idol" (8.344 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #7).

Next up was ABC (6.182 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2) with originals from "The Middle" (7.244 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.8, #6), "The Goldbergs" (6.684 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 2.0, #T4), "Modern Family" (8.538 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1), "Black-ish" (6.475 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3) and the special "Nashville: On the Record 2" (4.075 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.8, #13).

Meanwhile, NBC (6.216 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4) offered up new episodes of "The Mysteries of Laura" (6.383 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T11), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (5.952 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.3, #10) and "Chicago PD" (6.315 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.5, #8).

And finally, fresh installments of "Arrow" (2.775 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T11) and "Supernatural" (1.730 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #14) on The CW (2.252 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the former delivered a 0.8 rating while the latter posted a 0.6 rating.
