Friday's Broadcast Ratings: Olympic Trials Lift NBC to Top Demo Spot

Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (7/8/16):

NBC (4.887 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #1) staked claim to the demo crown on Friday with its coverage of the "U.S. Olympic Trials: Track & Field" (3.953 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T3) and the "U.S. Olympic Trials: Women's Gymnastics" (5.354 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1).

CBS (4.971 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.7, #3) then was the most-watched broadcaster with its repeat lineup of "NCIS: Los Angeles" (4.673 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6), "Hawaii Five-0" (4.983 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6) and "Blue Bloods" (5.258 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T6).

Next up was ABC (4.752 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #2) and its mix of a "Shark Tank" (4.170 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.8, #5) repeat, a special edition of "20/20" (4.239 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T3) and a regular "20/20" (5.847 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.441 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.4, #4) offered up second runs of "Rosewood" (1.498 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9) and "MasterChef" (1.384 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9).

And finally, a new "Masters of Illusion" (1.128 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #11) and repeats of "Masters of Illusion" (0.987 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T12) and "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.047 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T12) closed out the night on The CW (1.052 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.6/7 with an encore telecast; "Late Show with Stephen Colbert," 1.7/4 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.9/5 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.9/5 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.3/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline," averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.1/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (0.9/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (7/10/15):

NBC (4.270 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T1) and ABC (4.144 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T1) shared the demo honors on Friday as the former served up a repeat of "America's Got Talent" (3.969 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.8, #5) and a new "Dateline NBC" (4.874 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #1).

The Alphabet then served up a repeat "Shark Tank" (4.193 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #4) plus originals from "Primetime: What Would You Do?" (4.011 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2) and "20/20" (4.230 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T2).

Next up was CBS (4.647 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.5, #3) and its all-repeat lineup of "Elementary" (3.239 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8), "Hawaii Five-0" (4.841 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T6) and "Blue Bloods" (5.862 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T6).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.331 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #4) offered up encores of "MasterChef" (1.628 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) and "Gotham" (1.035 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10).

And finally, the return of "Masters of Illusion" (1.594 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10), a repeat "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.251 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10) and a new "The Messengers" (1.248 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10) on The CW (1.335 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), said trio posted a 0.3, 0.2 and 0.2 rating, respectively.
