NEW YORK, N.Y.. - Oct. 2, 2016 - The 42nd season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" has delivered a +29% increase on its season-opening rating of one year ago to deliver the show's highest season-debut rating in eight years, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen Media Research.
With a telecast hosted by Margot Robbie and featuring musical guest The Weeknd, as well as appearances by Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump and Larry David as Sen. Bernie Sanders, last night's "Saturday Night Live" averaged a 5.8 household rating, 15 share in the metered markets, up +29% from last year's 4.5/11 for the Oct. 3, 2015 season-opening telecast.
It's the highest metered-market household rating for a "Saturday Night Live" season premiere since Sept. 13, 2008, when the telecast hosted by Michael Phelps and featuring musical guest Lil Wayne as well as an appearance by Tina Fey as Gov. Sarah Palin, averaged a 7.5 rating in the metered markets.
In the 25 markets with local people meters, last night's "Saturday Night Live" averaged a 2.7 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49, for a +35% increase on the year-ago debut (2.0). It's the highest-rated "SNL" season premiere in 18-49 in the local people meters since Sept. 28, 2013 (2.7 with host Tina Fey and musical guest Arcade Fire) and equals the show's top opener since Sept. 15, 2012 (2.8 with host Seth MacFarlane and musical guest Frank Ocean).
Last night's "Saturday Night Live" telecast featured guest appearances by Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump and Larry David as Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Four consecutive encore telecasts of "The Good Place" from 8 through 10 p.m. ET:
· Maintained or grew during every half-hour in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and total viewers.
· Fast-affiliate ratings were:
· At 8 p.m. ET, 0.4/2 in 18-49, 1.8 million viewers overall.
· At 8:30, 0.4/2 in 18-49, 1.8 million viewers overall.
· At 9 p.m., 0.4/2 in 18-49, 2.0 million viewers overall.
· At 9:30, 0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.0 million viewers overall.
"SNL Vintage" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET, with an encore of the Oct. 20, 2012 telecast of "Saturday Night Live" with host and musical guest Bruno Mars):
· Grew +60% versus last season's final "SNL Vintage" telecast in 18-49 rating (0.8 vs. 0.5 on May 21) and +92% in total viewers (3.271 million vs. 1.702 million).
· Delivered the most-watched "SNL Vintage" in total viewers since Nov. 7, 2015 (3.6 million with an Oct. 30, 1976 edition hosted by Buck Henry with musical guest The Band)
· Scored the highest "SNL Vintage" rating since March 19 in 18-49 (0.8 with a May 10, 1997 telecast hosted by John Goodman with musical guest Jewel) and equaled the "SNL Vintage" high since Feb. 6 (0.9 with a March 24, 2007 edition hosted by Peyton Manning with musical guest Carrie Underwood).
· Tied for #2 in the hour among the Big 4 nets in 18-49.
· Ranked #2 outright in the slot among those nets in adults, men and women 18-34.
