NBC'S LIVE MUSICAL WINS THE NIGHT IN NIELSEN'S LOCAL MARKETS, BEATS "EMPIRE" HEAD TO HEAD
"Hairspray Live!" has scored a 5.9 rating, 10 share in household results from Nielsen's 56 metered markets and a 2.6/9 rating in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
· Wins the night in households and 18-49 in these local results, taking six of six half-hours in households and five of six in 18-49.
· Beats "Empire" head to head from 9-10 p.m. in households (6.0 vs. 4.9) and 18-49 (2.7 vs. 2.6).
· In 18-49 in the local people meters, generates NBC's highest-rated in-season Wednesday, excluding Olympics, in four years (since Nov. 28, 2012, 2.6).
· In households, teams with last week to deliver NBC's two highest-rated in-season Wednesdays in two years (with a 5.9 last night and a 6.5 last week, highest in season since Nov. 12, 2014, 6.8).
· Grows +48% versus NBC's Wednesday season average in households (5.9 vs. 4.0, L+SD excluding the night of the Presidential debate).
· Soars +117% above NBC's Wednesday season average in 18-49 in the local people meters (2.6 vs. 1.2).
· Increases among female teen viewers versus last year's "The Wiz Live!," with a 4.3 rating versus a 4.2 on Dec. 3, 2015, and is competitive with "The Sound of Music Live!" (4.3 vs. 4.6 on Dec. 5, 2013).

Wednesday Primetime Results:
"Hairspray Live!" wins Wednesday night in 18-49, total viewers and all other key measures (including ties in men 18-49 and men 25-54). This week and last week are the only two times this season a network has beaten Fox on a Wednesday that included an original "Empire."

· Jumps +77% versus NBC's Wednesday season average in 18-49 (2.3 vs. 1.3).
· Grows +47% versus NBC's Wednesday average so far this season in total viewers (8.918 million vs. 6.064 million).
· Delivers NBC's highest 18-49 average in for an in-season Wednesday in two years (since Nov. 12, 2012, 2.3).
· Joins with the previous week's Christmas specials to deliver NBC's two most-watched in-season Wednesdays in two years (since Nov. 12, 2012, 10.1 million).

· Is the third show ever to win a time period versus an original "Empire" in total viewers (9.008 million vs. 6.996 million from 9-10 p.m.), behind only last week's "Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" and a "CMA Awards" on ABC.
· Grows +14% versus last year's "The Wiz Live!" among female teen viewers (with a 3.3 rating versus a 2.9 on Dec. 3, 2015), increases by +21% in women 18-24 (3.5 vs. 2.9) and matches last year among teens 12-17 (2.2 vs. 2.2).
"Hairspray Live!" delivered:
· NBC's best Wednesday with entertainment programming among female teens 12-17 (3.3 rating) in 13 years, since May 28, 2003 (3.4 with "Law & Order" and the debut of "Fame")
· NBC's best Wednesday with entertainment programs among females 18-24 (3.5) in 12 years, since May 5, 2004 (the day before the "Friends" series finale, with "Friends" encores and a two-hour "Friends"-themed "Dateline NBC")
· NBC's best in-season Wednesday night with entertainment shows among teens 12-17 (2.2) in 14 years, since Nov 20, 2002 (2.4 for "Ed," "The West Wing" and "Law & Order").
· The best night for any broadcast net (excluding live sports and news) among female teens 12-17 and women 18-24 since ABC's Oscars on Feb. 28.
In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday Night:
· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.5/7; "Late Show with Stephen Colbert," 2.1/6; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.8/5.
· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.8/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.
· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.
· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.4/5 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.1/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.5/4 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2.
· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
